Background noise cancelling/ voice suppression

I have recently bought a Moto g50 running Android 11 and it seems to have a really strange feature/fault! When I make a call (either voice or video) the recipient can hear me perfectly, but when I call with my 3 year old son and he speaks the recipient can't hear a thing and it appears like he is sat next to me miming! I've never come across anything like this before, it doesn't matter which family member I call or through which app, they can all hear me perfectly but not my son. It's as if his voice is being cancelled or suppressed somehow, so I assume it must be some background noise suppression software or something? I've installed no such audio apps or anything. I've searched the settings, help, forms but can't find anything that could explain it. Any help is gratefully received!
