Backing up photos to OneDrive

So previously (even on S10+) photos I've taken would sync to my OneDrive account for backup. Now I save photos to my SD Card and not the internal storage on the phone. Not with the S20 Ultra, I no longer have that option. In OneDrive it states that Gallery Items on your SD Card cannot be synced with Onedrive. Move them to internal storage.

Does anyone know how to get my pics to sync with Onedrive, other than using internal storage. Seems like this is a big step backwards.

That takes me to the same settings, and doesn't allow for SD card backup.

Yes the pictures I take get stored on my SD Card. If you see my first screenshot, my gallery is backing up to OneDrive but, all not gallery pics from the SD card. See the fine print. I used to be able to backup my gallery from my SD drive prior to getting the Ultra. I can't believe they would take that feature away, as that's one of the main advantages for offering and SD card in the first place.

I figured it out. I had to disconnect Samsung gallery from my OneDrive, see screenshot, and then just in OneDrive enable camera roll uploads.

Yes, the new Onedrive Gallery plug-in doesn't work with SD card (dumb). The old Onedrive Camera Roll backup still works.

Related question: what happened to Samsung Cloud storage? It looks like we can now only use OneDrive for cloud storage. Samsung Cloud still allows phone and Galaxy Watch backups. But we used to get 15 GB of cloud storage, and that appears to have gone away.

Well if you hit to change over to one drive you opt out Samsung cloud , from what I know you cant go back ..now I'm still on Samsung cloud .
One thing I'm not sure if you reset your device will it SDK again which to choose , my theory no because it's now backup to one drive and might know that but haven't tested out and lol wont .

I personally like they use OneDrive storage instead of Samsung cloud. Never used or plan to use Samsung services. It's nice the way integration works now with OneDrive.

Samsung made that deal with Microsoft around the Note 10/+ launch. It didn't try and force it on you until the Android 10 update. It's unfortunate that Samsung switched their photo backups to OneDrive. I much preferred Samsung's to Microsoft's.

I like how Samsung's back up kept the albums I make in the Gallery app, and it's just one login. It irks me to no end to open Google Photos and OneDrive and see all those backups without being in the albums I spend time making.

I hadn't used my Microsoft account in years until the OneDrive integration. In fact I was a little surprised they hadn't shut my Outlook acct down for non-use.

Can you use the Samsung cloud backup photos on any device/platform? Same reason I also don't use iCloud photos as my main on iOS devices. Google photos, OneDrive, Amazon photos etc all work seamlessly on any any device/platform and one of the most important criteria for my scenario. I do agree everyone's needs are different. Personally I stopped making albums long time back and let Google photos automatically create based on pictures. And the search on Google photos is so great I never had the need to make separate albums. While sharing it still allows to create shared album so not an issue for me there as well.

I use some Microsoft stuff , but Samsung backup is the best I've seem on a phone , from messages,contacts,photos,home screen set up,settings,apps, etc..

That's the rub. It's not cross platform. I've been thinking about trying Amazon photos. I get it free with Prime, so I've been meaning to check it out. I do use iCloud backup for my iOS devices, but it gets little to no use right now b/c my iPhone is basically a glorified iPod touch while my sim is in my Note. I will say I like Google Photos backups better than OneDrive.

I've been using OneDrive camera roll backup for years on Windows Phone, iPhone, and Android, but I'm new to using Samsung. I've tried disconnecting the Samsung Gallery from OneDrive, but I see no other option in OneDrive for camera roll uploads. The only option I see is "Gallery sync." I reconnect my personal OneDrive account with Samsung Cloud in the phone's settings, but when I go to the Gallery settings, it keeps showing "Can't sync data."

I've also moved the camera storage from the SD card, which was automatically set up, back to internal storage and keep getting the same error. Can anyone offer any pointers? Am I missing something in the OneDrive settings to allow me to bypass the Samsung Gallery, or is there a problem with the Samsung Gallery to OneDrive connection?

Resurrecting a dead thread to say that I came in here looking for a solution to my problem (which I'll describe in a bit) that started off like what you described with the "Can't Sync Data" error.

If you haven't found a solution to your problem yet, what solved that part for me was this:

• head to https://account.live.com/consent/Manage and remove the "Samsung" permission. Before you do that, read my problem below as that's where I'm stuck. I want to reconnect it.
• Clear data and cache on Samsung Gallery and on the OneDrive app.
• Open Samsung Gallery again and go to settings. It should show a message "Your Microsoft and <Samsung email> accounts were disconnected on another device, so you can't sync Gallery with OneDrive anymore."
• After that, logging back in to OneDrive now shows the classic "Camera Upload" settings.

My problem is that I want to reconnect it. I had to wipe my device (S10+) and I actually liked how that Gallery/OneDrive integration worked. I can't seem to get it to reconnect now. I've tried resetting, uninstalling the apps and a few factory resets. It's like it's a perma-ban if you remove that permission in OneDrive like I described.
