Like the title says. I wanna root my phone... And I'm completely new at this. And I don't want to lose my apps or the data on them... Every other way I've seen needs root first but rooting completely restarts my phone.. Help?

Sent from my HTC One using Android Central Forums

root device will not lose your personal date or apps, only flash rom will erase that.
google sync can backup contact picture email. and application setting for you .

You will lose data when you unlock the bootloader though, which you must do in order to root.

HTC has their own backup tool as well. I used it today to switch from the 32GB HTC One to the 64GB version. It didn't backup everything, but it worked well enough where I wasn't starting from scratch. From reading other posts, I think Helium may be the best choice without rooting your device.
