I sincerely apologize if this thread has been started before, but I scrolled down for a decent amount and couldn't locate it. My Nexus 7 (launch-day preorder model) seems, in a dark room, to have its backlight flicker on auto-brightness only. I've since switched to manual adjustment (made even easier by 4.2 notification toggles), but I was wondering if this is indeed a unique defect, or is it relatively normal for this device. By flicker, I kind of mean a slow, gradual change from brighter to darker to brighter again, especially noticeable with a white background (such as when reading an eBook). Thanks!

It's not unique to your device. It's also a software problem that I believe is easy to solve. No need to panic, especially since the new drop-down makes the auto-brightness obsolete. It will probably be fixed with the next update ;)

You are not alone. This is a pretty common complaint on this forum. Do a forum search using terms like brightness, flicker, or dimming, and you should find a number of threads on this issue. Bottom line is that if you have a unit that has this problem, there isn't much to do besides turn off Auto Brightness. Everyone keeps hoping that the next update will fix the problem.

Thanks! To tell you the truth Asus has never been good with auto brightness. My zen book ultrabook also has a relatively similar issue with its backlight. But as mentioned, 4.2 makes it ridiculously easy to adjust your brightness manually.
