Bad video quality when posting on social media

I've noticed distorted video quality when uploaded to snapchat or instagram story. I read a few threads that android is using something like screen capture mode when recording on social media unlike the iphone which records straight from the camera. I want to know if recording on the default camera app and uploading to instagram story afterwards will result in a much better video quality.

Probably not, because the problem is that the sites compress the video (and compression of that type isn't lossless). You can try it, but I don't think you'll get any better results. (Most phones can't record video at better resolution than their own screens anyway - so whichever method is used, you're getting the same data.)
