Badges not working after a clean up

I had badges showing on the phone that were getting too large to keep up with. IE: my YouTube was showing me I had 220 unread vids to watch!

So I got right in there and turned the offending badges off, figuring it would reset them to '0' and start over. Well that may not have been the best idea, now I get NO badges from any site! <sigh>

How do I restart the badges from YT or any other app? NB: I never started the original badge from YT or Google or any of them, they just started to appear!

Next time I won't be so heavy handed and just let the badges alone no matter how big they get.

I didn't read through the entire thread, but what they're referring to is that if you dismiss notifications, those particular notifications will no longer show up as a badge -- but if you got newer notifications (i.e., after you dismissed the previous notifications), those should show up as a badge. You're saying you don't even get the new notifications as a badge any more, right?

In YT I get NO badges, in Messages I do and in Weather I do. All he rest are silent out of the huge list of apps that are allowed to get notification badges only those 3 show any sigh of life

IS it possible that there's a setting in YT online that allows notifications to be sent to subscribers of channels, could it be that and NOT the phone at all?

I don't think so, since you're not getting badges for other apps either.

Try wiping the system cache partition: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/samsung/samsung-galaxy-a01/wipe-cache/. This won't affect any of your personal data.

I did as you suggested and 'no joy' so far. But I did notice that if I open YT and look at the bottom of the screen there is one called SUBSCRIPTIONS.

I DO get a badge, albeit a small one. Clicking it opens not one channel but many at the same time, all different and new. I remember that in trying to get the badge on the YT app icon to work, I clicked on one that wanted to show me a group of channels that had activity in them. Plus, if I could adjust the time of day these sites would be shown to me. I DID NOT make any time changes not do I remember where I found that subscription app. I think it's called Subscription Digest....

I also noticed that on my Tab 4, which is set to have badges on YT as my phone..... after days of non use, there is not ONE badge on the YT app on the Tab 4. there were others that had badges but not YT. Seems odd that initially there was a badge that had a number of over 200 on the badge, hence I thought it needed cleaning but I ca't tell you what I did to 'clean' it



OFF TOPIC but today my phone and my wife's started downloading updates for the English language saying " waiting for network connection'. I got rid of it and then it returned on her device even tho' it was marked DO NOT AUTO D/L updates! lol

Ok try couple things here
1. Reset app preference - go to settings>apps>3 dots upper vright corner tap>reset app preference

2. Settings>general management>reset>reset settings

This is a mistake in that I AM getting badges for EMAIL, MESSAGES and WEATHER.

The one missing is for YouTube, at one time it had a number on it over 200, that's what prompted me to 'clean it' and cause the missing badge mess I am in. I see that you can have a badge with numbers or a do.

Where I got the information as to how to clean the badge on YT I don't know I thought it would be a once and done and back to business, I see that was wrong.

Not to confuse the issue but if I open the YT app, down at the bottom of the app's screen there are the following items shown:

HOME

SHORTS

A LARGE + SIGN

SUBSCRIPTIONS <<<< This one has a small red badge on it. If I tap it I get a lot of relatively new vids from sites I am subscribed to. I would think that that badge belongs on the main YT app on my home screen.Lets face it, it did work for over 200 times

Uninstall the update to YouTube, Long press the app then tap info>upper right corner tap 3 dots and uninstall the update dont let play store automatically update it to test if previous version is ok

I did as you suggested and remove the update to YT still no joy. Also the two resets that we did ( as Mustang suggested didn't do anything for the problem but it DID let me see that my photos are going to the internal memory and not to the SD card as I thought, so I remedied that. Seems that my latest photos aren't updating to Google... can I force it to update or is that all automatic?

If I change the launcher what will it look like, full of odd icons for apps that I don't recognize?

I still get just badges for email, wx and messages as before, you guys have really been trying to help and I appreciate it tremendously.

Am looking at the Nova page now, no need to find it for me.

Thanks for all the info on Nova I will consider it for sure.

Oddly enough yesterday I got an email on the device that contained a list of and links to ALL the channel updates for my subscribed channels The message arrived in one of my email boxes and caught me so off guard I don't know what generated it! If I get one of them from time to time I'd be satisfied.

I have done extensive reading about how YT handles things like I am describing above. Clearly it 'could' that something is toggled off, vis a vi channel updates, and it may not be the device but YT itself stopping the update badges from being sent. Lets not forget that I get notifications for many other things, but not YT, nor do I ever see a badge for YT on my Tablet. Lots of others but no YT, not a one. Seems to me the common thread is YT and not the launcher,I doubt they both have the same affliction, if there is one. Just a thought.....

I'll keep soldiering on and maybe find a definitive answer, if I do I will surely let you guys know.

Remember I do get a tiny ( and I mean tiny) badge for subscriptions, and when I tap it I get a list of updates to various subscribed channels, but not an email, as I did yesterday, that one caught me off guard!

I just have to keep nosing around and see what I can turn up, I will keep you both posted as to my success

Once I logged in to YT I got the bell notification on the top of the page... but no badge on the YT app on my home page. I also got a small badge on "subscriptions" on bottom of the home page, tapping that yielded whole list of new postings from subscribed sites.

It may not be perfect but at least I am getting something other than badges on weather, email etc. But still not one on the YT main app icon on the home page on the device or tablet. Mysterious ain't it? <shrug>

A point of interest.... I GOT a badge on the YT app, but it appeared on my tablet, not my phone. I thought that maybe because I turned on the tablet before the phone maybe that's why I only got one badge.

At least it shows that occasionally I can get notifications on YT like the wx and the others,

I don't think we / I fixed anything it most likely was OK to start.
