Battery Drain after VZW OTA 4.2.2 Update?

I charged my phone up before going to sleep last night and unplugged it. Checked this morning and these are my percentages:

8h 6m 7s on battery:
Android OS - 47%
Phone Idle - 16%
Cell standby - 12%
Maps 10%
Screen - 7%

I also used a couple apps after I woke up and those were 3% along with Wi-Fi. I've never really paid attention overnight like this before, but is the OS suppose to use that much while the screen is off? Throughout the day my battery usually shows the screen using the most and IIRC the OS was only maybe a single digit. Not sure if not using the screen overnight causes the change in difference of OS usage.

The update that HD Widgets sent out earlier today seems to have finally fixed it for me. As soon as it finished installing, my phone's batter graph leveled out and it physically cooled down (it's been warm since the 4.2.2 update over the weekend) and my battery graph leveled out. It's been back to normal ever since. I did the Exchange account reset a couple days ago, though at the time it did not seem to help with anything.

I almost wonder if the update caused similar conflicts with multiple applications, and you have to get the ones on your particular phone all fixed before it settles down and starts working correctly.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am 2 and 1/2 hours into the work day and my phone is totally dead again. It's also weird that it only seems to happen while at work, at home it's on wifi and the phone is fine. I tried many of the suggestions but nothing seems to be working. I checked under settings>battery and it appears that my phone is being held awake almost constantly. I checked BBS for wakelocks also but can not narrow down what exactly is causing it to stay awake. One day it seems like one thing, the next, another.

So this is my third or fourth day on the update. Day one I had battery drain problems, I went into settings to see what was drsiningn the battery and it was 2 apps, shazam and a video watching one. Shazam was using 50%. I uninstalled both and now the battery seems decent. Today will be the first day I will have it off the charger all day and I will report back. I have a feeling I'm going to do a factory reset anyway but at the moment I don't think its necessary.

Moral of the story, deleting apps could help battery drain problems. As sometime else said deleting cached data will probably help as well.

Odd, my battery lasts significantly longer since the update. There are noticeably less wakeups when the screen is off compared to before the update. I haven't deleted any apps, although quite a few have been updated so it's possible one of the app updates is the root cause.

No one likes to go through the inconvenience of a factory reset but it really is worth the time and effort in the case of this 4.2.2 battery drain. I have had zero issues since doing the factory reset on my phone. Like most people here I spent a couple days trying to narrow down which app or apps were causing the issue but it seemed like something new each day. In the end you are probably spending more time and effort trying to find the cause for it than you'd spend backing up and doing a factory reset.

Do any of you guys have Google Services taking up the majority of your phone? I'm running stock 4.2.2 no rom. I have stopped ALL Play Store notifications, auto updates, contact sync... pretty much everything you can. Here's a screenshot:

I was having this same problem finally I gave in and Factory Reset the phone seems to be working a lot better.

I thought so too, but in a response I received today from a Samsung rep they said they are different. I told them how I already have factory reset the phone, but they insisted I tried "hard resetting" the phone. Below are the instructions they gave me:

We apologize for the inconvenience that may have caused you. After going through your e-mail, we understand that the battery of the phone drains very quickly after the phone has been updated. We see that the factory reset on the phone does not fixed the issue.

In this situation, you could try performing a hard reset on the phone for any luck. Please back up the data on the phone before performing the hard reset. All user data such as contacts, messages,
applications, pictures, videos, and music will be permanently deleted after the hard reset. Hard resetting is similar to the factory reset, but we expect better results performing a hard reset than factory reset. Please refer the instructions mentioned below to perform a hard reset.
1.Turn the device off (Remove ane re-insert the battery ).
2.Press and hold Both Volume Keys then press and hold the Power Key until the Bootloader is displayed.
3.When the Bootloader appears, release the Power key and the Volume Up Key.
4.Use the Volume Keys to scroll to Recovery. Touch the Power Key to select and wait for the Recovery screen to load.
5.When the Recovery screen appears, press and hold the Power Key then press the Volume Up Key.
6.When the Android system recover menu appears, release the Volume Up Key and the Power Key. Use the Volume Keys to scroll to wipe data/factory reset. Touch the Power Key to select.
7.Use the Volume Keys to scroll to Yes, and touch the Power Key to select. Wait for the reset process to finish.
8.While reboot system now is selected, touch the Power Key to reboot the headset.

If you have already performed a hard reset on the phone and if the issue persisted after it, please try with a different battery of similar phone if available or try with a test battery available at the carrier store to isolate the issue. If the issue is with the battery please try replacing the battery.

Update from my last post about two weeks ago. After a reset my phone runs smooth and fast. The battery does not die nearly as quick as before, it last long to VZW GNEX standards which I'm ok with since I carry an extra battery. Before the update to 4.2.2. I would get a lot of random reboots and so far I haven't had any which is another plus, don't know if the update or reset fixed that.

Since the latest Verizon update, I was having similar issues to those posted here - battery running down to zero in a few hours, device getting hot, etc.
In my case the largest user of the battery was reported as "Exchange Services" (I had my work email pushed to my phone).

Did a backup/reset through Android and haven't had a single issue since. In fact, my battery life is now the best I've seen since I 1st got the phone.

I'd like to try this method but what's the best backup solution? I'm not sure of a good way to backup my settings to something I can restore from, something similar to what iOS and iTunes gives you the ability to do.

I had this same battery problem, have a stock Galaxy Nexus, I held off upgrading to 4.2.2 because of all the issues posted here, but I was have a power cycling problem, so I did a factory reset on 4.1, updated to 4.2, and then did another factory reset. Afterwards, my Nexus was running really hot, and the battery would last about 90 mins even without any use.

I did what others suggested, uninstalled Maps and deleted all the data, then reinstalled the latest update, now it seems to be fine. I'm also not experiencing Bluetooth issues like some, my Jawbone works just like it did with 4.1.

I went ahead with the hard reset on the Galaxy Nexus, as well as the Nexus 7. Both done on the same day. I can you right now that Google's backup/restore feature sucks ***! LOL But hopefully I should be able to an improvement in battery life.
