Battery drain extremely fast after update.

A few weeks ago someone told me about a system update and how it improved battery life. I downloaded it and it was perfect. Phone stopped dying so quickly. Now a couple days ago it started up again and draining 10% at ago time every couple of minutes. The only new apps in installed was the up app by jawbone and weight watchers. What else could have started to drain my battery. Husband took it off the charger last night at 1 am when he said it was at 100% when I woke up at 8am it was at 46% ....

Hello. You could take a look at the battery history details by touching the grey graph. There may be a signal search or other problem, if you want to post that.
Also check the Data Usage by scrolling down in that setting for both mobile data and wifi.

What caused me problems immediately after an update, (yours was ok for a while), is the Google Sync settings were all turned back on and it was stuck in an error.
Master Sync on - General - Accounts - Google - touch name and uncheck anything you don't need. I didn't like uploading photos to Google.
Also any cloud accounts may be waiting for wifi.
I use the Yahoo app all the time without Sync on and that seems high at 12% but it's probably because the screen was not using any battery.

There are many other options to try that others will remember.
The GSam battery app is genuinely useful.

This is today's screen shot. Husband said he turned it off once ot reached 100% so it wouldn't drain. Then I turned it on at 8am and it's down to 26% . I see it's showing something is running and keeping it up but I don't know what. It's saying it's been on battery for 21 hours but it's hasn't. I've been having to charge it constantly just to keep a charge to it.

I've been suffering the exact same issues. I even rooted my phone and tried a few custom ROMs but nothing has helped. Unfortunately any software updates for Samsung phones over a year old always seem to be plagued with bugs these days, utter laziness considering how big of a company they are. Its a phone ruining experience and it seems that it won't be fixed any time soon. I've seen quite a few posts between here and xda describing the same issues :(

As Madd54 mentioned above, I've also found GSam Battery Monitor app to be quite helpful in understanding and pinpointing app or process battery usage.

As for the discussions on XDA and here, please share the links so that I and others can follow in the event my phone begins to have the problem mentioned in this thread.

I have never seen that drop before. Its only 22 mins so if you could let it run from 100 - 1% that would help.
I am in the UK and going out but I will ask someone to have a look. Try cleaning the battery contacts. You also had no signal when the charge was interrupted, and you have a Samsung update pending. I had one this week they are ok.

Back later.

Anyone?

I did the update and the interruption period was when it was turned off so the battery wouldn't drain. At 8 am I turned it on and it was 26% this problem is all of a sudden. After the most recent update it was working great. Lasting me all day

I think you have a problem with the battery or terminals. It was at 100% then turned off, and showed 26% on restart.
You can leave it plugged in until you need it. It may read 98 or even 95% when you unplug it. That is normal.
Use it normally from 100 until 1% or it turns itself off at 1%, then charge it until 100%, you don't have to unplug it until you are able.

This will help the battery calibrate it's percentage readings. You may not get enough use out of it during the 1st drop, but it's a sacrifice worth making.

When you do the first full 100% drop, try to take screenshots anywhere around the 1, 5 or 10% mark.

Use Gsam as well as the battery settings. See shots below.

I don't think it is connected to the updates, but I don't know if you checked my first post.

You had other threads last year with battery issues. That may have been your phone or your husbands. If you have two, obviously swap batteries and chargers.

As @B. Diddy recommends, try spinning the battery on a flat surface. If there is a bulge the battery is crying enough.

If you want to post screenshots like above.
You could try to re-calibrate it a little by letting it go from 100% to 15% a few times.
But it sounds the battery is defective (is there a bulge).
