Update! So my phone is still at 92% now at 11am and I took the charger off at 740am. So much better now! Yay

Fell asleep last night before I could put my phone on the charger and I'm still at 60% today
it's wayyy better. I love the phone more now.

The only benefit to charging with the phone off is that it charges a little bit faster. The battery tells the phone's charging circuit when it's full, not the other way around. On or off, the phone is going to charge to the same level.

Yea, a battery can only be charged so much but the time it takes to charge will be decreased.
Also you will not have battery sucking programs slowing the process and heating the battery up even more.
Trust me on this its better with the phone off, your battery will thank you.

If your phone is operating properly, any extra heating will be insignificant, as will the effect of "battery sucking programs."
Now then if you're charging while running a really cpu and graphics intensive game, or navigating with GPS, then yes, the phone will get hotter. But just leaving the phone turned on while charging will not harm your phone in the slightest, nor significantly change charging time.

Just to make it clear, I never said it would "harm" the phone.
It will however decrease the life span of the battery, depending on how many things you have running.
Heat is the number one killer for batteries is it not?
Solid, uninterrupted charging (power down) is best for the battery and will get the job done faster.

You're picking nits. My G3 drains at about .4 to .5% per hour when idling with the screen off. (Yes, I can prove it.) Charging with the phone off, or drawing at .5%, is going to make no real difference to the temperature of the battery. Technically you're correct, but you're talking about a reduction in life of probably .001%.
Worrying about such trivial effects is a waste of effort, especially considering that you lose all connectivity when you turn the phone off. Is it really worth missing phone calls and important notifications to gain an barely measurable increase in battery life? If you think so, knock yourself out. For most of us, it's a poor tradeoff.

As long as its within the safe operating temperature it should be fine.. People should be aware the day open and power on your new device the battery is degrading. Its impossible to sustain it. Heat however can speed up the process.

That is perfectly fine and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
That is why I sometimes prefer to get a clean charge with the phone completely off and plugged in overnight.
You would be surprised on how long my battery stays at 100% that is how I can get 144+hours of standby time.

Pfft. The placebo effect is real. Have you done a real comparison, same usage, after charging off vs on? 144 hours of standby isn't that special. The G3 is incredibly efficient in standby mode. And most users report staying on 100% for a long time, especially if the phone is barely used. But enjoy being out of touch if it makes you happy.

I am one that does personally test my phones and batteries.
What's the most SOT you have had? I can get 8hours without a squeeze.(not barely used)
Out of touch? I only do that on occasion and overnight, meaning I'm asleep.
Those people who say their phone stays at 100% are leaving their phone charged longer.
Go outside and breath some fresh air and get some sun.

I will report that I charge my phone over night while I'm sleeping. The phone is on in case I have a call or text come in. I usually unplug at 6:00am when I wake up. I quickly look through my email while I have breakfast. When I leave at 7:15am, I plug in to hear my music through Poweramp. My commute on average is about an hour and fifteen minutes. I start work at 8:30am and when I get there, I connect to my companies wifi. When I look at the top of my notification bar, I still have 100%!! Thats pretty damn freakin good man!!

Better for you, perhaps. I use my phone all day, always get through the day on one charge, and charge it every night when I go to sleep.
To me, that's better because I have wasted exactly zero minutes of my life tinkering, testing, and researching how I can get my battery to last longer.

The time it takes me to learn about my phone and how I can get better battery life is worth it to me.
I use my phone all day and don't have to have it on charge at night for at least a week.
You waste minutes of your life not learning anything, that's bad for you.
