Why does this tablet use its battery so fast? Been on it for about 20 mins and its lost 10% already from fully charged. That's surely a bit ****?

Did you check which apps are using the most battery under Settings > Battery?

If I'm honest it doesn't seem to matter what is running its still drains way to quickly. Not as bad as some I have read about on here where it just randomly dies but I still think its a bit bad. At the moment it seems to be media server draining the most. I hate to keep comparing between android and apple but I can't help it, my iPad lasts way longer. Why is this?

It was on auto but it was way to dark but its only a little brighter than normal, so on a scale of 1-10 its about 3.

Well as stated before, you should definitely check in settings - It has be a software problem as the iPad 2 has a 6944 mah battery compared to the Nexus 10's 9000 mah. Perhaps you should run both the tablets similarly (with battery saving settings), then you will be amazed by the Nexus 10.

Have you checked in settings to see if nfc is turned off? My nexus 10 was losing battery life faster then normal so I went into settings and found that nfc was turned on since I've turned it off my battery life is much better

On a side note, auto brightness can also use a lot of battery, since it's constantly using the light sensor.

That would make sense, I have turned it off and it has slowed down the drain somewhat. Just got to sort the terrible video playback.
