With some exploration, seems to be something called "Google back up transport".
Any ideas?

According to Google, this is the service that allows Android apps to back up their data onto Google's servers so apps can be restored after a factory reset. You could try and turn off automatic backups and see if that makes a difference?

Have you noticed this since the April security update? If so, I have experienced the same and found that something appears to have affected the WiFi radio. I don't use WiFi any more and my battery life is close to normal before the April and may updates.

it has been since the april update. i will try shutting down my wifi and cross my fingers. hope they get this sorted out!

just checked.... still getting crushed. google play services still the biggest battery hog.
this is so frustrating

Have you reset Google Play? Go to Settings, Apps, All and find Google Play. Do a force close, clear cache and clear data. Exit settings and reboot the phone. If you see another app in the battery monitor using too much power, do the same. Pending how that works for you, you might also consider clearing the system cache.

I did a factory reset midweek.... Was great for a couple days. Like great the way it was when it was new, but now, seems back to where it was. So frustrating. Using about 12% an hour with me not even using the phone!

I haven't done a factory reset since I first got the phone January 31st. Battery is crushing me all around. I get about 5 hours a day battery life with about 2.5 hours screen time

I have found if I leave Bluetooth on without being connected to anything will hit my battery. Check and see if you have that toggled on

This started happening to me when I updated my weather network app. I uninstalled it cleared cache then reinstalled it and it went back to normal. I think something in the app was bugged and using play services inadvertently.

I had the same issue on my htc 10 and it's one of the reasons I got the Pixel. I couldn't figure it not no matter what I tried. Pixel is decent so far, not great, hopefully it won't take a nose dive.
