Battery health app and replacement

I've had my G4 since July 2015 abd been through the whole Bootloop debacle twice. But so far, the last repair has held up for just over a year (knocking on wood!).
Now that the phone is over three years old, the battery no longer lasts a full 12 hour day like it used to. Does anyone use a simple app to check battery health? I don't need an optimizer or one that tells me what uses the most power as I can see that in the onboard batter Info app.

Also, what's a good brand replacement? There are a LOT of choices out there, some $6, some $30, so lots of range in price.

You can use accubattery to give you an idea on battery health. It's not completely accurate and really takes a month or so to get a good average, however if you feel the battery isn't lasting very long, just replace it. If you are still on the original battery after 3 years, it's time. As far as replacements go, I've tried many off brands as well as what I thought were OEM batteries but were fakes upon close inspection. The only replacement batteries I would recommend are from the LG website. Unfortunately they are $39, but if you want it to last all day, that's the only one I would use.

Thanks, Aeroshep1! I can get by for the time being, since I have an extra battery to swap, but know it's going to eventually drive me nuts! I know the battery market is full of fakes, so will avoid Amazon's choices. If I have to buy one from LG, I guess I'll bite the bullet, but just ran across a Goupon one that says it's a genuine OEM LG for $15 . Heard anything bad about Groupon deals?

Groupon deals are a toss up. They could be genuine, but if they are, they are most likely used. I've seen these listed just like this and turn out to be a fake. It has free returns though, so really you have nothing to lose. If you get one, let me know how it turns out.

Is there a way to tell if they're new, other than a visual inspection? Is there a way to test them?

There is no way to tell for sure if they are new. They do have a date stamp on them but that doesn't really tell you if they are new. I can't remember for sure how it was packaged, I think it was wrapped in a clear plastic bag with a sticker to ensure it hasn't been opened. Visually, the fakes are close, but the font might be altered slightly, or one of the pictures on the battery is different. The best I've gotten from a fake is probably about 2/3rds of a new battery. Better than my old battery but really not acceptable.
