Battery icon with "100" now on the Always On Display

After the recent update (Oreo, I guess), the Always On Display now shows a new icon that's a circled battery with "100" in the middle. It only does this when the battery is at 100%.

I hate this, because it constantly looks like I have a Messenger or Snapchat notification when I don't.

And it's irrelevant, because I already have a location on the screen that says "100%" followed by a battery icon.

How do I remove this second icon?

If it matters, I'm using the display that looks like:
