Battery issues in heat?

Just a few weeks ago I got my Samsung Infuse and am quite happy with the thing. My only issue is I have to leave the phone in my car when at work and that seems to be causing me issues. Previously my phone would be at about 65-75% battery after being there 9 hoiurs which I thought was fine. Recently in this heat wave on the east coast the battery gets up to 59 C according to the battery gauge widget I downloaded when I get out of work and is drained to 20%. I don't think any additional services are running that weren't before (including the widget).

What temperature is the battery rated for? Is this issue temporary until cooler temperatures arrive or might there be permanent battery damage? Might it be a service I'm not aware of running? This thing had a great battery out of the box and I'd be pretty sad if it was permanently messed up. If I'm paying for the $10/month insurance does that cover a battery replacement? I'm not sure what the alternative is other than going without a phone while on the road to and from work.

Ugh. I do not like the idea of leaving anything in a hot car if I can help it. I'd recommend the trunk if you have no other option... maybe inside some insulation?

One thing you might do.... if your work allows it... is take out the battery and keep that with you. (if this is the kind of place that objects to the security issues of a phone w/ camera, but not otherwise prevents something electronic, such as working inside a killer whale tankn at sea world...)

I'm not an expert but as far as I know heat does damage batteries. I've read its the #1 issue for them.
But I'm not sure you need to be too concerned. Mainly, I have bought 2 extra batteries. One cost $7 of eBay(China) and the other $26(Samsung) so its not a big deal or too expensive to buy a new one. Much less trouble then trying to insurance claim the phone.
If you can, just turn off the phone when sitting in the car.

Oh, I the highest I've seen my battery get was 151F. I was charging phone and watching a streaming video in a no a/c car on a 101F day. I took a screen shot for fun. Lol
