Helllo :)
I brought a note 12.2 in January. This is my first tablet:)
Thank God everything on it works really good. But just having battery issues....!
I had about 3 laptops before that all really bad problems....bad battery, low screen light , then just broken down lol etc etc.
But I'm really shocked at this battery and just thought it would 'somehow' get better...I don't know why ...
Anyways I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with when I first got it?
It said charge for 3 hours prior, I actually timed it. And went a little bit over because weirdly enough couldn't tell if the battery looked 'full' even though I've owned a note 2 phone for nearly
3 years lol ...
my question when anyone here first brought their tablet 12.2, did they charge it for 3 hours as it states in start up book, if so did they unplug it when it said '100%' or just showed the 'full battery' icon as in it goes green all the way up....?
If so because with did charge for well over 3 hours and did not switch it on until after 3 hours, this tablet doesn't give me close to 7 hours of use when in half bright essential mode, full brightness I can get 4-5. I will have to time that to get exact hours but basically not all that good for something that claims 13 hours..I know you won't get 13 but something close to 11 or 10 even!

I saw videos and reaserched beforehand. I watch mainly netflix and design software like sketchbook pro etc that's where the main power consumption goes but really can't think of why else it's so bad...before I know it I'm on 35%...then 15% just really awful . Phoned the place where I brought it they actually told me if it says 13 hours on the box than I should get that EXACTLY...not sure what to say on that as far as Im aware you dont always get what it says on the box because everyone uses different programs etc...I know or have enough experience with laptops etc to know it's simply not true. But they wanted me to come give it in for an exchange. ..I'm thinking I should. They were really nice I'm hoping they will be again as it's getting to close to nearly 3 months of use
but need to know if there is a known battery issue .. how many hours do other people get out. Of the 12.2?

As you suspect, hours will NEVER be exactly what's on the box. If someone tells you that, ask to talk with someone else who actually knows what they are talking about. Your battery life will depend on how you are using the tablet. The more graphic intensive programs the faster your battery will drain.

One thing's for sure, manufacturers DO NOT rate their devices based on theoretical max drain. If CPU maxes out for a particular type of activity with screen brightness set to max there's going to be a particular power drain that the tablet is going to require out of the battery. This is no different than a theoretical maximum power drain of an incandescent light bulb on a dimmer switch. I can guarantee you that 13 hours on the box is NOT for max screen brightness at max CPU clock and max GPU clock with wifi pulling max download speed. If it were, NOBODY would complain about battery life on these things.

I'm more inclined to believe that the really long screen on time is achievable by looping a video and watching it at a reduced brightness. IMO that's not going to stress the device if the GPU is optimized to decode said video file.

For me I just use my devices and charge when I can. I don't believe in deep cycling lithium ion batteries so when I have the opportunity to top them off I do so and I don't stress out about needing to do it. I do understand that not everyone has the same lifestyle as myself so for those who absolutely must run maximum number of hours away from a power outlet I'm not sure what else to say other than reduce your brightness and carry an external battery pack.

Looking at battery life simplistically there's basically two states that you can control . . 1 - standby and 2 - typical use. When in standby (device is on but the screen is off and you're not using the device) your power drain should be less than 1% per hour. If it isn't then there's likely an application/service or multiple apps keeping the CPU from throttling down fully and that is resulting in increased power consumption when on standby. Finding the culprit there takes observation of battery statistics while leaving the device at rest in standby for hours so that wake time can be measured without user interaction.

For the typical use the only way to curb consumption is to reduce load . . that's not always practical if you need higher screen brightness or you need to be multitasking etc. Everyone's usage is different so there will always be variations (not unlike gas mileage since we all have different driving habits).

Thanks for the replies.
the standby issue actually makes sense to seefif anything is on whilst it's on standby so it doesn't further drain it...
I'll see for a few more days I just wanted to see what others say if they've noticed a bad battery or is it just me....because as I did say that everyone uses different things so yeah the hours won't be the same for everyone- just a rough estimate if anyone can let me know?
typically my tablet will last 6 to 8 hours.
thats on videos and sketchbook pro - and I will always vary between screen brightness because that's something I really like about this tablet is that it's is quite strong in brightness, thank God.
my main thing is has to be charged still has twice a day..
but I've never owned a proper tablet. Did have an Asus transformed t200 hybrid laptop , only for a short while though. That was really bad, the screen just would freeze up battery was worse on that. Which is why I don't really want to go and return this because it's not as bad, but again if it's the norm for this tablet ill be hopefully Ok with it.......

I true off the auto brightness and use Tasker to set my brightness volume etc for what I am doing. Some days my battery goes all day and other days if I watch videos a lot, then it doesn't, I can usually get 4-5 hours of Netflix out of it before I have to charge, but generally I do like muzzy996 and charge when I get the chance.

MyNote pro is my work laptop and I can usually get about 6 hours of so of use (Office apps and LTE for internet) before I have to plug it in because I'm getting the 15% battery warning.

Thanks for the replies It's quite sad to hear well below 10 hour mark for some even though everyone's hours will vary....This just proves that it is the tablet so at least I don't have to return...like I said I never owned one before so maybe this is how they run it is a big screen so will need more power. But before our have I watched video review of reputable sources and sites, and it said the battery is big to accommodate the big screen...Clearly not I suppose...
If anyone else doesn't mind I really would like to hear how others 12.2. Tablet battery lasts, it's informative and would like to collect this information as I don't think it's right for the customer service to be adamant the tablet should give me 13 hours when its not even...A little close to that. Or at least samsung why state 13 hours when the screen is so big it would obviously need more battery ...i know it never gives as stated but it should seriously be atkeast 9 to 10 lol....I'm just a bit upset that I did research it again turned out to be lacking in battery department. Reason being is in my experience these batteries don't last. I hope to God I don't have to replace within a year I have insurance on it so hopefully it will cover:)
Also thanks to the poster ill use that application for screen brightness sounds useful.
