Battery life not lasting? Your fix is in here

I got my phone last Wed. and my battery just now started getting better today. So just give it time guys, its at 84% now and has been on for about 3 hours with alot of use. Just takes some draining and re charging. Charging with it off a couple of times seems to help too.

Ya'll DID let your Lithium Ion battery stretch a bit right? Come to a full and complete charge for a bit BEFORE use?

today my stats are:

android system 27
cell standby 25
phone idle 18
voice calls 10
display 9
camera 9
dialer 2

battery is at 35 percent and the up time is 7 hours 12 minutes and awake time is 1:56 i dont know what to think about this.. whats your take? im new to android and i guess i was blessed for awhile by a much better iphone battery (i have no gps on or locations, i have to manually update my facebook and twitter and such also)

well i just had my battery replaced by verizon and they didnt even blink...said there was a batch of bad batteries that came out w phone....

prior to me getting new battery the original battery would be @ less then 20% battery w/in 3 hours of normal use. by normal i mean read/reply to couple of emails shoot a couple of texts talk on yahoo messenger/gtalk and occasionally a short phone call....also when i charged it the battery got very hot to the touch...

well today the battery got so hot the phone turned off....thats when i went to verizon...

for charging they asked if i used the one supplied with the phone or my old blackberry charger, i said both depended where i was @ the time...

for the blackberry converts the car charger is fine, but the house charger is a big no no according to verizon, as it charges @ a different output then the supplied charger...

so with new battery i charged with the supplied charger....the new battery got warm, but nothing out of the ordinary....did a full drain also on the new battery before i charged to give it a true test to see if i need to spend the money on an extended battery...or if how i use the phone will the stock battery cut it for me....

i cant do what the op said to turn off as it prevented my emails to come thru when phone was idle, they would come thru when i took it off standby..but w my work i need them when they come thru...

have the brightness down to like 5/10%....

not using the live wall papers...do have advanced task killer installed(and was recomended by verizon just to help the battery out)....

first test on battery have not used wifi so cant judge how it will react when using wifi...

its been 9 hours off the initial charge with the new battery. i have sent over 100 texts about 30 emails replied to about half, 2 short phone calls and some time on gtalk and browsed the internet for a bit (have not gone into the market)...closed apps after i used them so they werent running in background...

battery is @ 27%

this is just my experience and how i used the phone today....i am much happier with these results then when i first got phone...and by hour 3 needed to be on a charger cause that wouldnt cut it...

i am by no means complaining as i know this phone is powerful, and it does take some juice to run that way, and i know it is a smart phone not a dumb phone..so i am not trying to compare to that...i am trying to compare to my blackberry which easily gave me a whole days of use and abuse without a glitch.....so seeing on first charge of new battery i can get 9 hrs, i am on cloud nine...and i am sure it will get better with a few cycles on the battery..as in my experience they do get better after a couple of full drain/charge cycles...

glad to hear your situation seems to be fixed now! my first charge lasted only a couple hours like yours, but is starting to get better cant wait for the update to it reminds me of the g1 battery at first

while its true chargers have different rates it should have an adverse affect really

your USB output from your PC/Laptop charges at a different rate than the plug into the wall type (500 vs 900) i think. You then have external chargers like ZaggSparq that is even faster 1000+

So i dont buy what the VZW rep was selling you. sorry

i was just relaying what they told me today while i was there....

after a couple of charge cycles i am gonna try my bb charger to see how the battery reacts just for my own curiosity.....

I have been using my Blackberry Storm 1 charger to charge my Incredible while sleeping since I bought it, and I use the HTC-supplied one at my desk.

It's worked fine, and all I can say is that the BB charger pushes 5V 700mA, vs. 5V 1A (1000mA) from the HTC charger. Laptops and desktops push different amounts, same with the car charger. The HTC charger definitely charges the phone quickly when it's sleeping and I want a fast boost to the battery. I'd like to find some more inexpensive 1 Amp USB chargers if possible.

As far as battery life goes, I've been able to have mine online and awake for hours with fairly regular texts, gtalk, constant emails, browsing, and some application use and I only need to start charging it about 7-8 hours after I first unplug it in the morning. That's with wifi on as well, screen at full brightness. I use advanced app killer to usually clear out anything held in memory, but haven't played with that enough to tell a difference. When I plug it in in the early afternoon it's usually at around 20%.

Today my phone has been unplugged for 16.28 hours. and i have 41% battery remaining.

This averages out to 3.62% battery loss per hour. MUCH better than my average yesterday prior to disabling "always on"

I think this battery is satisfactory.

At this current rate, i could last another 11 hours or so. giving my battery a life time of about 27 hours.

Not bad. Mind you this was with moderate use. Texting, emailing, phone calls, some youtube videos. etc. screen at 25%, backlight at 30 seconds, wifi, gps and bluetooth all off.

battery saving trick that works well for me

i took a picture of a plain black binder w/ the camera set to the absolute lowest resolution & quailty and the flash off, producing a tiny totally-black picture of about 50kb.

Setting that pic as my wallpaper instead of the one I was using (which wasn't crazy) actually saved me 10% of my battery use yesterday vs. the previous 3 days. It's not rocket science but a black background requires less power usage.

Even better option would just be to find a 10kb thumbnail on google image search or something... This actually gave me back about 30min or so of battery life and cost me nothing except some dazzle when other people see the screen.

Itrclown... They replaced it at the verizon store, or on the phone via mail? I want to do this too, just to be sure I don't have a bad battery.

So day one with the 1750 mAh Seido battery was a screaming success.

Heavy use throughout the day, played games on it whenever I could, had it on from 6:00am to about 11:15pm

I wanted to see how much I could drain from the phone, and at 11:00 I finally gave up after getting it down to 20%. I think that's the longest I've ever had a battery last on any phone i've ever owned under heavy use.

Odd thing happened this morning though. I woke up again at 6:00am, instead of the red charging light, it was green (which I'm used to). Yet, I pull the phone off that charger and it says 93%?

Not sure what that's all about. Anyone have anything like this happen?

exactly

I have no desire to pay $200+ for a phone and close to $90 a month for service and then have to deliberately NOT use the thing in order to save battery life.

hey.. i understand wanting to take full advantage of the phone and wanting a battery that could support a smartphone with robust use throughout an entire day.

but as someone who sits in front of a computer all day at least 5 days a week, i don't NEED my phone to constantly sync and pull emails and weather updates. but the option is there when i need the information. With adjusted settings I can still make calls, texts, download apps and use the internet with no restrictions and still have sufficient juice by the end of the day.

i'm not saying it's the best battery situation. but in the end, i'd rather have this phone with a sub-par battery than a blackberry or a motorola droid even though they could last me longer on a single charge.

My OEM battery did that.. it would be green as usual to indicate fully charged.. then I would pull it off the charger.. and within a min or so it would be at like 95%..

I noticed with my OEM battery that it would quickly drop from like 100 down to 90 within 10-15 minutes.. but the lower the %.. the longer it would take it to drain.. took forever to get my phone to drop from 50% to 40% and 40% to 30%

It seems for me my battery life is getting much better. Yesterday was the first real test for my phone. I left my house yesterday about 5:45 to catch a flight and returned the same day (45 minute flight). I checked all my emails (100+), replied and sent some (@35), had about 12-15 calls, 19 texts, surfed the internet, got two new apps, and at midnight still had 17%. I spent about 1.5 hours last night setting up my phone for all my needs. I turned off the always on, i do have a task killer, and use it after I turn on a lot of apps/internet etc, and I have not upgraded to a new battery.

Today, I took my phone off the charger at 7:00, it's 10:40 and I have 95% battery left - 4 calls, 32 emails received, 12 sent, 2 texts, and checked scores from games yesterday.

The one thing that I've noticed that made a huge difference for me was turning on and off my bluetooth as needed (got the bluetooth on/off app). I sync with my car, and as soon as i'm out of the car, i turn it off.

You probably need to calibrate the phone to the battery if you haven't done so already. I.e., let it drain down completely (don't do this frequently, it's not good for Li-ion batteries) and then charge it back up to 100%. That'll reset the phone's understanding of the battery's capacity and give you a more realistic depiction of the status. Especially switching from the stock to the Seidio, I imagine this would be even more important.

Yeah, i'll try and do a full drain. Yesterday I was trying to get it to 10% and just gave up when it got too late.

i re-enabled the setting first mentioned in this thread. the lack of push gmail service was a deal breaker for me.

that said, my batteries performance does seem to be improving! i got almost 17 hours out of it yesterday with normal use - phone calls, text, gmail, internet (flickr), apps, etc. i've had it unplugged for almost 4 hours today and have made phone calls, internet (flickr), gmail and i'm at 82% still.

the battery meter is glitchy, lots of people are seeing it drop t0 95-97% immediately after taking it off the charger. I noticed this the first day. But it doesnt continue at that pace at all
