Battery life not lasting? Your fix is in here

as for how the phone is set up,

Always on WIFI when i can
"always on mobile data" and "background" services on
auto for backlight
exchange and hotmail set for 5 miinutes
bluetooth off unless in use
GPS location on
Haptic feedback on
Screen timeout 30 secs
Twitter/facebook set to manual or maybe 4 hours ( i have my BB for those already)
Calendar and contacts with gmail do not sync, only email does

Those are all i can think about off hand, if you want more ask i will list them

Poor Standby

I work in a school and still can received calls and emails and am indoors from 8am to 3pm and the battery is almost dead by 2pm with everything tuned off mail is set to check it self every 60 min, don't use the internet, animations, Haptic feedback off, gps wifi and network off? I don’t use facebook, tweeter, or rss feeds during the day. I don't know what else to do besides get another battery or get rid of the phone.

Whats going on Matt? Its jgutie6634 from CB. Been seeing a lot of BB/CB defectors around here; its very refreshing! :)

Gonna be picking up my 1750 slim from Seidio just as soon as they have their screen protectors and InnocaseII available so I can make 1 big order.

Cant wait!

Well, I think part of your situation is that you're splitting the responsibilities of the device between it and the blackberry. I'm not sure how your battery life would hold up if the incredible was the only device you had.

this is the same boat I'm in

check your up time and active time, are they almost the same number?

My uptime is 5 hours and my awake time is 28mins. My batter went down to 40% between 7:30am and noon with virtually no use.

I was hoping the awake time/up-time thing would work for me, but it does not seem to by my problem.

I am going to see if I can get my Verizon rep to swap out my battery to test it.

uptime 00:55:52
awake time 0:19:04

android system 95%
cell stand by 3%
phone idle 2% time on 38m 54 sec

Still don't know how to maximize it without a new battery, It just seams not to be efficient compared to others users??????

I think I am going to try a hard reset and see if that helps. Start over from the beginning. Other than a different battery, I can find anything else to try.

Guys I was reading on another forum about this guy who seems to make his batter last longer. I dont know what the policy is on linking to other forums but here is what he did.

I, like many, suffer from battery depression. I've been scouring the forums and grasping at straws to figure out how I can improve battery life without cutting out features. I also ordered a new TP2 battery that should be here in a couple days. But today I decided to try something....

THE EXPERIMENT: I plugged in my phone last night and woke up this morning to a green LED. I turned my phone completely off and plugged it again. Alas, a red LED which did not turn green for another 20 mins. I then unplugged my phone and plugged it back in again; RED LED for another 20 mins! I did the same thing over, in total of 3 times.

RESULT: My battery right now is showing 98% after being off the charger for nearly 2 hours. It used to go to 90% in 10 mins!

Am I on to something here? I think this is more proof that the battery isn't being charged all the way, perhaps maybe only 70% of it's capacity on the initial charge. I am hoping that the battery "remembers" how full it can actually charge to so that I do not have to repeat all the steps above every time i charge the phone.

UPDATE 1: 5 Hours later - Battery is showing 88% . in this time I have had 3G on, browsed for about 20 mins, Pandora for another 20 mins and have been checking and sending email. Also checked some stocks.

So basically he said he this
1. Charge phone charge all the way to 100% (green led) while on.
2. Unplug phone and turn it off
3. Put charger back on and check led (which should be red)
4. Leave till green. Unplug it and plug it back in again till green.
5. If it goes green right away its fully charged.

Other have said it has work for them I am testing it right now but my phone is at 44% so its going to be a while before I can report back.

Thanks for bringing the tip over here, Qb. Which forum did you get it at?

I'm charging now (at 26%) and will try this method throughout the day today.

I got it from here. Some people have reported better battery life. Some speculate that it could be that when your charging it overnight while its on that at some point at 100% the battery reads full and stops charging at which point the battery starts to drain but the battery indicator its reading 100%. But like I said I am testing it now but I leave work in two hours so probably wont know anything till tonight

TY! I should be able to post something by then. I will have to turn the phone on while it's charging the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, billionth time though. :D
(I need the service in case of emergencies.)

The tip Qb has posted might be on to something. Normally I would caution against this because li-ion batterys do not get lil happy faces if overcharged. I would think htc would have built in circuitry so this doesn't happen but who knows.

Yesterday I had a lite to moderate day of use with my phone. My battery life was suffering after working great the day before, and I even had wifi and bt turned off. I powered my phone off, and let it charge from the power port of the usb on my laptop (it supposed to be better for charging...different than other usb ports) for about an hour or so. No green led or anything. A coworker came by, was interested in the phone so I took it off charge, powered it up, turned on all the bells and whistles, BT - Wifi - data always on - etc and we played with it for a bit. Put it back on the laptop cable while on for the next hour or so, didn't seem to get past 70% charging.

Went home, put it on the wall charger overnight, left all the bells and whistles on, and I've messed with the phone a little today. Installed two updates to apps, viewed a couple emails, sent a couple texts, made a phone call. Less use than yesterday but I haven't shut off any bells or whistles yet. I even connected to the local wendys free wifi spot at lunch lol.

From the best of my knowledge using the stock battery indicator, the phone is sitting at 80%. Up time is 23:31 and awake time is 3:13. I would say it seems to be performing better than it has on any other day I've used it.

I wonder if there is something in the charging circuitry that, like has been suggested, is not charging the battery all the way? I wonder if thats why they say to charge the phone all the way before even turning it on?

I only charged mine while off for about an hour though. Still I am intrigued. I use li-ion batterys for other things, and I know they seem a little flat and a little faster to go dead if on less than a full charge, where a full charge gives what I expect. Maybe this is a similar case here.

Oh, I haven't stopped the calender service or anything since the full power up yesterday, I did before I powered it off, but when I turned it back on it still was running same as before so I didn't mess with it again. The only other appreciable change was that I choose the 12am to 6 am time or whatever it is for backup assistant to do its thing.

Doesn't that seem a little extreme? A 5 step process just to get your cell phone charged? At the end of the night, I turn my phone off and charge it throughout the night. Wake up, turn it on to a 100% charge and it lasts me all day with medium+ usage throughout the day.

Just notice your Sig. I went through the same phones as your did :D

LOL! Nice! I am very sure there are many just like us with the same order of devices. And some with maybe the additional Moto Droid or Eris in front of the Inc because unlike me they saw how awesome Android is and were ready to say bye bye to BB and RIM before me/us! ;)

if this works, i wonder if you have to do this everynight??? i am testing it now. my battery is fully charged, so i turned it off and plugged it back into my charger. turned green after 15 mins. now i am on round 2. stayed red for only few mins. round 3, light stayed red just for a few seconds. so i guess i am good to go now, i'll test it out. btw i am charging through my computer.
