Battery life thread

So is this typical or do we just have bad batteries or bad screens? I have it on 0% brightness almost all the time too.

Well I get my new razr in tomorrow so I will be able to make more of what it going on. If it plays out the same way then I don't know what to do next. As we get updates the battery life WILL improve regardless. Anytime I am using 3g data it drops at a rapid pace that is just not normal.

I gotta agree with you, especially considering the kind of battery life some of the other people on here are getting. I might actually go and pick up a new RAZR some time this week; my 2 weeks ends on Friday.

I wanted to pick one up in store and they only allowed me to get one shipped 2 day to me. Not happy but had no other option. No way it can be a refurb this early in the game so I will see how it works out and report back. All we can do is try again and see if we get better battery life. I am actually glad I am getting another from a different location to rule out the batch my particular store received.

Anyone that has a high Android os% what's the actual cpu usage you are getting?

Today I've had 6 1/2 hours on the battery, a 6min phone call, 15 min browsing....and lost 20% battery.

Android os was 52% with a cpu time of 37m6s....how does everybody else compare?

Also 3g only with backround sync off...

Thanks

Okay guys, was at 100% and took the phone off the charger as I received a call. Talked 41 minutes and 23 seconds and was down to 90% when I hung up.

Is this normal to you?

Noticed faster drain with Bluetooth .... almost never get 3g. That looks like a pro lem.am always on 4g. Get 14 hours with my kind of use and no charging

Here's a suggestion for all RAZR owners, whether your battery life is great or terrible:

Post your average battery life and the % of battery usage for Android OS.

On my Droid 2, Android OS is just using 2%, so I'm guessing that something is very wrong if Android OS is using 20% or more of your battery. It's possible there's a software bug in the OS, and if you hit that, the CPU runs full bore all the time...

10-12 hours, light to moderate usage with Android OS always 20-27%.

I've also downloaded CPU spy and my phone spends alot of time at 300 MHz. Is that just the slowest it goes without being in deep sleep or is it a problem.

I leave my phone on 24/7 and when I got my Razr I was getting good battery life and then went down hill after a few weeks. Then I saw on Motorola's website about some of the causes of battery drain. One of them was to reboot your phone once a day because of some of apps could be the cause. I rebooted my phone and my battery life is back to when I got the phone.

Just download an app called "Fast boot". It does a really quick restart and shuts off all unnecessary apps.

Turning off 4g is the best idea for saving battery. I really didn't want to post my results until I did an extensive testing on different days having radios on on some days and off on others. I've come with result that the 4g sucks. On heavy use and every radio on. That means 4g, wifi,Bluetooth, GPS, hotspot, sync as much as possible. And I get about 2 hours if I'm lucky. If i milk the heck out of it. Meaning I turn off every single radio just leave it for text and calls. " can get about 14 hrs on a few calls and text. On just streaming music thru Bluetooth, about 5 hrs.

4 hours off charger. 78% battery remaining. Screen on 30 minutes, interesting same as CPU 30 mins. Android OS 42%, display only 20%. Background data is off too...

I've surprisingly gotten better battery life when I leave background data on.

Do you use corporate sync, exchange E-mail push notification? I do, but I will try enabling background data again. Not that my battery life has been terrible, but I feel it could be better.

I think my battery has finally settled in a bit, and combined with the device not being as new (and therefore I use it like I normally would), I'm pretty happy with battery life anymore. It's not as great as my old iPhones and Galaxy SII, but I can comfortably make it through the day. Usually I keep it plugged in my desk whenever I have a chance, so I sit around 80%+ the majority of the day, but yesterday I unplugged at 4:30am and save for 3 quick trips in my car where I hooked it up to the car dock (each trip was ~7 minutes and gave me 2-3% increase), I didn't charge it at all. At around 7:30-8pm I plugged it in at 19%. My usage was normal for me, some facebook and web browsing, a few quick calls, several e-mails. I don't use smart actions (except battery one which dims the screen at 15%), wifi and GPS both off but 4G still on the whole time, background data always on with push for all e-mail accounts.

Biggest user seems to be the screen. If I continuously use the phone (such as for web browsing) for an extended period, the battery drops quickly, but rarely am I sitting around long enough where I'm going to just sit on my phone that long (I prefer using a computer if it's going to be for more than maybe 10-15 minutes). On standby and my moderate usage, I get through the day without any stress, and combined with having chargers just about everywhere I normally go, I just top off whenever I get a chance usually so if I can't charge for a while, I'm nearly starting from a full battery anyway.
