Battery life thread

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I'm dumbfounded. Here I am. No widgets, running ADW, brightness is OFF TOTALLY -- 0%, one email account set to fetch every 30 mins, and great 4G service...and I'm at 80% fter taking this off the charger an hour ago.

I don't understand. I'm returning the device if this doesn't change by the end of the week. It's absolutely abysmal.

I should add that I also have my screen brightness turned all the way down, but have a widget to toggle between 1% and 100% in case I'm in direct sunlight and need to use it.

I don't understand it. I've had horrible batteries before, and maybe this is a bum RAZR...but it's annoying to think I'm going to have to exchange it and then get RE-INSTALL all of my apps again...

It's just the principle. I don't get how a 1750 mAh battery can go to 17% in 5 hours with NO USE.

Try a factory reset.

I'm absolutely perplexed at the battery issues being had by a handful of users on this thread. Like many of the other people who have recently commented, I am getting EXCELLENT battery life.

As an update to previous posts, I managed to get through roughly 35 hours before hitting 10% and recharging.

Seeing as how that was my indisputable #1 fear before picking up this device, I have to say I am happier than a pig in...well, you know....with this phone. DROID!

Today I set the screen brightness to auto. That would be my preference, but I was concerned about battery life so I set to 0. Since the battery life is so good I'll try Automatic Brightness and see what kid if effect it has. I'm guessing not much. Hopefully I'm right.

I always have auto brightness on (it works well) and my battery life doesn't appear to have taken a hit...lol

Turn off pocket detection.

How does pocket detection work exactly? I saw it as an option but I made sure it was disabled. Is it the proximity sensor that turns off the screen when it goes in the pocket? It can't be ambient lighting because it wouldn't be able to tell the difference between night time and being in a pocket.

I guess my main question is does it work well?

I'm one of those that seems to be getting horrible battery life. Over the last two days I seem to be getting slightly better battery life. Could it be that the battery needs to be drained and charged a few times before it works to its full capability? I'm grasping at straws here because I love the phone but need it to last me at least through a work day. An hour of listening to Pandora, some texts, emails, and web browsing and after 3-4 hours I'm at 15%. Any help would be appreciated

I'm in that same horrid boat. I've had my RAZR since Saturday, and I haven't gotten more than 6 hours out of it at all. Usually, 3 hours into the day I'm already at 60%. WITHOUT EVEN USING IT. I've had to re charge TWICE TODAY, both times the battery hit 30%. Twice in 7 hours? Absolutely unforgivable.

Following characteristics:
Wifi off
4G off
Brightness ZERO
No widgets
Go launcher
Email fetch 30 minutes

Returning the RAZr tonight for an exchange.

Not exactly sure. I think it involves the motion sensor and proximity sensor.

If you look under your tasks, see what is running and if it it vz navigation or blockbuster or any of the other bloat, you can not only stop, but add it to the auto stop list.

Believe it or not, someone mentioned this to me last year when I got my D2G, and I think it's possibly true.

It's equally possible that some phones got lemon batteries -- they don't all ship from the factory in the same condition. I would monitor the situation a little longer, make sure you don't have other apps/factors in play (or too many widgets), and if it doesn't improve enough, try and get it swapped-out by VZW for a new one.

In SA, cellular data is the one you want to choose. It will give you the option of enable or disable. I have two Smart Actions set up. When I am at home and on my home wifi or at work on work wifi it disables the cellular data and uses the wifi. You still get calls and texts, just no data.

To clarify, this forces the phone to use WiFi for all data, but you have no loss of other functionality? Calls, SMS/MMS texts, etc. all continue to work as you'd expect?

Everything works except MMS, unfortunately. But yes, SMS, calls, and everything else works fine without cellular data if you have WiFi.

I believe you'll still get the text portion of the MMS if there is one, but any multimedia that is attached to it will just have a 'download' link for your to press to fetch it once you're back on cellular data again.

@Adam and Chadwick: Thanks for the details on that. Might try it. Don't know if it's really going to help battery life, except if the 4g is toggling all the time (which it might be in my house, despite VZW's coverage maps). But if I'm getting all the data (sans MMS) via a faster, WiFi link anyway, why duplicate the radio-battery usage at all?

Thanks again.

Pocket detection works really well.

Just returned my RAZR -- got a new one a la warantee.

Hoping this time around will be a NORMAL RAZR!
