Battery life went in the pooper

I got some update on my Infuse a couple of days ago. Until then the battery life seemed awesome to me. Now even with Wifi-GPS-Bluetooth all off and no running apps, live wallpaper, widgets, etc -- the battery just drains like crazy. I don't see any indication of why it's happening. For example with nothing running at at a 100% charge, in two hours it went down about 15% (sitting there off, I never turned the screen on). Overall it seems like the battery is only lasting 1/3 as long now.

Just wondering what I should do at this point? I never had a need to root the phone but if doing that to remove the at&t bloatware would help I'll give it a try (no idea how to root an android - assume it's not too difficult?).

The at&t apps I can't uninstal that I see right now are:
-at&t code scanner
-at&t family map
-at&t Hot spots
-at&t Navigator
-live TV
-myat&t

There are ways you can delete the bloatware, but I dont think that is the problem, not to mention that may also cause many more problems with you down the road. From what I've been reading here, when it is time for a big OTA update, the system first looks for the bloatware on your phone and if it doesnt not find it, it forfeits the update.

If your phone is rooted, you can used the app Titanium Backup Pro to freeze the bloatware so that it will not take up space or memory on your phone, and then you can unfreeze them when it comes time for the OTA updates.

I dont think the update did that to your battery. Try JuiceDefender. It works wonders on my phone.

I was meaning to try Juice Defender but whatever is wrong with the phone has to be well beyond it. I'm thinking of maybe taking the phone back. Something is really off.

Up until that update a couple of days ago (for example), I actually went three days without charging the phone. I used it lightely during that time. It still had ~30% battery life left.

Last night, everything was off (wifi, bluetooth, gps, widgets, etc) and there were no running apps. When I went to bed it was at 85% battery life. This morning it was down to 9%.

Why would the phone drop almost 80% battery life while I was sleeping with nothing running?

+1 on the bad battery. I just got my infuse, and the battery life is tremendous. 8:45 Eastern time, and im at 70% still.

Yeah my battery life was awesome as well - for the first 2.5 weeks.

Last night I turned off all un-necessary services, and turned off wifi/gps/bluetooth (no apps/wdgts/live wallpaper either). Then I charged it to 100% and turned the screen off - then unplugged it. When I got up this morning, (10 hours later), it was down to 61% battery left.

I'm going to go to the at&t store this morning. Hopefully they can just get me a new battery without switching out the phone or any hassle.

Thanks!

I notice the phone complains when it is on charger at 100%. Sometimes this happens when I'm asleep and it stays on the charger overnight. Is that doing any harm to the battery?

complains? Do you mean doesn't reach 100% even if left overnight?

He means it gives a notification stating that the battery is fully charged and to take it off the plug. I don't think it will do any harm to leave it plugged in.

FWIW juiceplotter might be useful in documenting your battery performance, gives you % charge history in a nice graph.

are you having that much of a problem with your battery you need to monitor it like that?

Well, they gave me a whole new Infuse. So far so good. I was actually a bit sad when they took they the old one a way for some reason.

They really are trying to sell it in the store as the hot phone right now. I should have taken a picture because this was funny: On display right next to the Infuse in the at&t store was an Atrix. It had a black screen with a little window opening indicating some critical device failure.

I'm not. I was suggesting the OP might find a use for that. Looks like they got a new phone regardless so all is good.

I have this. When the battery charge reaches 100% the phone vibrates a little and displays a baloon saying that the battery is fully charged and that the charger should be removed. I wondered what would happen if I was asleep at the time and failed to get the charger disconnected.

Separately, I find that when I use Google Navigator with screen, sound, GPS and mobile data all turned on, the 950 miliamp car charger I'm using is not strong enough to keep the battery from draining, but it is enough to get the phone pretty hot. Doing this one day while the car itself was getting hot, the phone announced that to preserve battery life it was discontinuing charging. I'm glad that the phopne was able to protect itself (it was VERY hot) but I sure regretted the loss of GPS halfway though the trip.

im not 100% sure but your phone should never get "VERY" hot

Not all chargers are the same. Some of the cheap 12v car chargers are way underpowered, some provide a lot more. I've had some so poor the phone drained doing nothing on them.

I have a small inverter mounted in my car and plug in using a regular household wall charger and that seems to give me the best performance. The inverter can get a little hot but that's fine.
