Battery life?

I know everyone keeps harping to not use a task killer, but I've done some non-scientific tests on my Inspire over the last week or so, and I've found it helps my battery about 20% or so. I can now make it through the day easily, whereas before I was cutting it a little close. I unplug at 745am and by about 11pm I am usually at ~20%. That is perfect for me. I listen to music probably 2 to 3 hours a day, surfing the internet a lot, text, play Angry Birds a bit in a typical day. I also call for about an hour a day. That is the single biggest drain. Just my $.02

my 2 cents..

i have not seen any issue with the battery so far, i charged it once and it fell below 15%, 2 days later (since it was a new phone i did use it to explore and experiment with it)

As soon as i got the phone i did the following:
since is was at home and had wi-fi, i disabled 3g and enabled wifi.
disabled GPS
went into settings ==> power saver and disabled vibration feed back
i lowered brightness of the phone
i lowered the time in which the screen went off to 25 seconds( thats just enough for me )
kept a static simple home screen
kept animation to middle setting "some animation"
kept bluetooth disabled

Before i made the above changes, While exploring some menus, i cant recall the exact path, i was able to see what apps was using how much battery power and the number one thing to use battery was the screen (89%). I think making just those screen light related changes can help save a lot of battery.

now i have settings icon on the home page and i just turn on the gps / bluetooth / 3G as and when needed

It's been better for me compared to the Captivate. That would be down 40% before I got to work. The Inspire when I left work yesterday was at 40%.

@iancull

Since it's Sense their is probably a widget that will turn off 4G. There was one on the Droid Incredible under Sense Widgets / Tools or something to that effect.

@everyone else
Here's what you guys all need to realize: HTC radios suck the LIFE out of your device even if they are not grabbing data. The display does drain as well, but set that to lowest brightest except in direct sunlight and you'll be good.

DO NOT use task killers. As many have stated here, they do more harm than good. If you aren't afraid to root, use Autokiller instead as it is a memory management tool as opposed to a task killer.

DO use Juicedefender. Before you guys came to that conclusion on this thread, I was going to mention it here. I am reiterating because it's that important to have -- it will literally save your battery.

Last, but not least, in an effort to save battery life, you should root. I know this isn't the best solution, given that a product should work as you expect after purchase, but in the Android world, I've found this is a necessity. Get setCPU and when your screen is off set the CPU down to the lowest clock speed e.g. 100 mHz. That'll save you A LOT of battery life when it's not in use as Android loves to clock up to 1 Ghz for menial tasks even when the screen is off!:p

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I was where you all are last year with the Incredible, and know how to get these devices to last, even on a crappy battery like the one supplied (1300 mAh was all we got back then from HTC).

This is why I love Android -- it's ALL about the community. :)

I've seen "disable 4G" mentioned a few times, but where is there an option to do that?

Network options seem to be locked out, may only be possible to change if you root.

Now that I'm past the 'burn in' period the battery seems to be going a bit longer, but I've mostly been sticking to using the phone for essentials and on wifi. Love the camera, and the screen, but I think I'm pretty soured on Sense and htc phones in general.

Sense is either hit or miss it seems. I'm the other way around. If I couldn't have Sense, I wasn't going to go Android.
