What is the best app that will manage my battery, ie turn gps on automatically when I use navigaton and turn on/off 3g when browsing?

There are two paid programs that can do this. One is Locale and the second is Tasker. Tasker can do more, but is a little harder to use, but there are directions. Locale is made for beginners, but is more limited. I use Tasker, and I use it to do just what you want to do. When turning on Google Nav, it will turn on GPS, and when I shut off the program the GPS will turn off. I can set time of day when Bluetooth will turn on and off, etc. It can turn 3G on and of when using the browser. Locale, I think does this also, but I am unsure.

Locale is $9.99 US dollars and Tasker is $6.30 US dollars

Here are the appbrain links for both:

well first off, leaving gps on will not effect your battery, unless you have a weather app/widget that uses your current location and refreshes every hr.

gps is only being utilized (at which point itll drain your battery) when you see the little satellite sign in the notification bar - check next time gps is on and you open maps

juice defender will regulate your wifi and data connection though. its free and very easy to use.

3g and 4g is really the largest battery killer for me at least.
4g can be toggled on and off using the notification bar that pulls down, so that is simple, however 3g is a little trickier.
the free app is called "dcswitcher" and it lets you turn off 3g anytime saving a ton of battery life.
when i turn off my 3g/4g, i average a drop of only 2 or 3% per hour of usage with very light phone and texting.

So does "Quick Settings"... I use it toggle 3G off whenever I'm not using my phone for an extended period of time (like when I'm at work and can't use it)

Wow that gps thing is so great to know. Now I can just leave it on all the time and not have to wait every time I open up a gps using program! Thanks!
