I love circle battery widget. You have to be careful because some "poll" the battery in an odd way and actually end up killing the battery.

I use the app battery life

Widgets -> Get more HTC widgets -> battery.
It's a nice, small widget and when you tap on it you also get detailed stats including temperature.

Bottom right button on Sense launcher that looks like a paintbrush -> widget -> Get more HTC widgets -> then click on and install "battery"

When that's done click and hold on your main screen (or any screen you want), select widget, then select the 'battery" widget you just downloaded

Also, there are other alternatives in the market that accomplish this same feature. I personally use one called "current widget" since it can be toggled back and forth to show either battery percentage and charge/discharge rates too (which I often use)

Download Spare Parts from the Market. That will give you more detailed information about your battery, usage and also some other options to tweak your phone.

Note: That is if this app is available for the Thunderbolt

I prefer Gauge Battery Widget. The icon is pretty customizable.
