Just took my phone off charge. Did the software update. Phone got really warm and my battery went down 7% in less that 10 mins. I've been going 15 mins since I took my phone off charge including fw update. Is this normal or will I have to use My S4 who's battery is great ?

What software update? What carrier? What firmware are you on? Where you on cellular or wifi when this happened? What apps were running in the background? Did you recently install a new app? Etc.......

There are lots of variables so you need to narrow them down. First, cell signal will murder your battery. Period
Second, reboot your phone, that fixes so many things.

I have no such issues, so you are going to do some work on your end to help fix this.

Good luck.

That's the point nothing has changed except the update. No excessive usage on apps. Left the phone on 80% at 9am and left it on the table and come back at 8pm and I'm on 18% when not even used. Wtf

you have some apps running in the background maybe? Maybe your phone's uploading photos to Dropbox or something?

You just updated to 4.2.2, give the device a couple of days to settle and for the battery life to improve. It's not going to happen overnight. And don't let your battery deplete, always charge it whenever possible and don't let it go below 30% because that's bad for it.

Yeah lol. I really like the one but battery just wont last. I used to get 16 hours on 4.1.2. Now 5 with normal usage.

Man I am sorry to hear you're having problems with the battery. Since you already have a S4, just sell the One and save yourself the pain and worrying. You could probably get it replaced under warranty if the battery is that bad (and it seems to be) but it seems like you're already fed up with the device.

Thats the thing. I love the one. Sammy annoys me. All my apps are exactly the same I had on 4.1 so I just dont get it. I work for a major uk phone retailer so I can exchange the phone at work. But it was going so well until 4.2.2

The battery is also losing charge when its turned off and i have disabled fastboot. What is the deal with this phone?

Did you try a factory reset? I know it's a bit of a mess, but if you really like the phone and this was something that happened after the update then you should check it out.

If the battery was fine before 4.2.2, then there must be nothing wrong with your device if you think about it (I didn't take the time to think about that last night before I posted), so you have a couple of options you can try. I know that you prefer using stock ROMs that came from the factory, and of course that's the safest and least worrying thing you can do because you paid a lot of money for a device and you're supposed to get what was promised without any tweaking, but as I said you have a couple of options:

1) Install a custom ROM like Android Revolution HD that is based on 4.2.2 and has better battery life, performance, is less bloated and looks stock. There are also ones like TrickDroid (which I am using) and ViperOne that come with much more tweaks and modifications than ARHD (ViperOne has the most).

2) Flash a RUU to go back to stock 1.28/1.29 and then update to 4.2.2 again then give the device a couple of days to settle and hopefully this time it will come around - it could have been a bad flash (stupid, I know, but it happens).

Either option you choose I recommend a full format of the SD card beforehand so you'd be doing a clean install.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have formatted it and that didn't help. I tried unlocking the bootloader and it wasn't working so I gave up. Seems way more difficult than Samsung to root. It's too much hassle and time consuming to put a custom Rom on it. It took 2 hours and I got nowhere unlocking the bootloader. If the battery was better I wouldn't use my s4 but I'm forced to and that's annoying.

Sorry to hear that. Yes, Samsung is a whole lot easier to fiddle with when it comes to rooting, installing custom ROMs, going back to stock, etc. however fiddling HTC devices can be frustrating sometimes but if you try hard enough you'll get the hang of it. The S4 is a great device, I don't know what upsets you with it; to be honest the only beef I have with the S4 is its cheap plastic (coming from a S3, I hated it) and its length.. it feels too long (no, not TWSS :D) for its thickness and feels very slippery, not to mention how weak it is just like the S3. I do like TouchWiz however and I miss a lot of its feature including the turn device over to mute/pause and similar Motion features, and I am pretty sure it is less laggy on th S4 than it was on the S3 (it was horribly laggy, I almost always used AOSP-based ROMs) but from trying it a couple of times I must say Sense 5 is a whole lot quicker and snappier than TouchWiz.

I agree with you totally. Thats basically the same issues I have with the s4. Too many gimmicks. Sense 5 is a lot snappier than TW. Keyboard on s4 is crap too. Even typing this I keep correcting words. Doesnt happen on htc . Been looking for replacement keyboards. Thanks for all your help. Ive just been a Samsung fan for years and im a Samsung ambassador and just kinda sick of the same old thing. Ive had 6 s3 and 5 note 2 and they are all the same. Htc is nice and different.

Screen time is a huge battery consumer. The one can get about 36 hours with two and a half hours screen ore half that with almost four hours of screen time. Go download beam battery monitor and it will break your power usage down for you. Generally and hour of moderate screen time burns between 18-20%
