Am I doing something wrong. Ever since I got froyo my battery doesn't last and I can't use the phone and charge it at the same time.

There is a chance its not froyo and its your charger. Have you tried other chargers? What brand of charger do you have?

No matter what charger i use its an issue. I have a blackberry Micro usb charger and i have my HTC micro usb charger. They both give me a hard time.

What are you doing with the phone while it's charging?

It sounds like you're using a bunch of power hunget apps at the same time. The HTC wall charger is 1 amp and should charge fine, though slowly, while doing things like GPS, NAV, Blue Tooth, Calls.

Check what's running.

Have you tried charging the phone while it's off, and if so, do yo know approximately how long it's taking? Just trying to see if it's a charger or phone issue. I did have a similar issue right after installing 2.2 with the battery not lasting. After rooting I can now go to late afternoon with moderate use before having to charge. And the only reason I rooted was for wireless tethering.

When my phone is on and gets fully charged, my phone then starts using my battery and not relying on the charger. It is really quite irritating. Mine has always done this. I use the charger ththat came with the phone.

I charge my batteries using a standalone wall charger. I never plug my phone in anymore. I was having the same problem and cannot charge my phone turned off. It needs to be on 24/7. Only time its down is when i swap batteries which takes less than 1 minute

This has been an issue with Incredible's and EVO's since the beginning... Once fully charged, it switches to battery power, even while still plugged in... Best solution remains charging while powered off to get a better charge, or, with the power on, unplug the charger in the morning, wait about 5 minutes, then plug it back in to top it off again...

it charges fine when its off but when its on it doesnt. i know there is alot of stuff running but advanced task killer doesnt seem to kill many of the apps.

It's not practical to charge the phone while off, especially if you rely on it as an alarm clock. Once the battery reaches full charge, it switches to a trickle charge, where juice is frequently supplied to the phone just enough to keep it at 100% without harmfully overcharging it. Music and navigation running are obviously going to create for a longer charge time.

Also ditch the task killers, they're not needed.

it switches to a trickle charge

No, it doesn't... It completely switches off... Even HTC acknowledged this issue and state that "The Engineers are working on it"... However, that's just the answer they give as most people will give up hassling them about it long enough for a new phone to come out.

ive been having major battery problems myself, i had 2 battery replacements, a phone replacement and a warrantied extended battery given to my by verizon. after 15 minutes off the charger it depletes down to 86 percent and then keeps going with little to no usage. yes i know apps are running, but was told to have task killer on and it does nothing...... various verizon "people" told me yes the DInc has problems while others deny. now i know this is a smartphone and yes the days of having a "cell phone" lasting upto 3-4 days without charging are over for me, but there has to be an answer. if anyone had this problem and fixed it or knows a solution that doesnt involve rooting, please pm me.... no success as of today!

After doing a lot of travelling lately, I've noticed how much 3G reception effects battery life. In areas of poor reception, the battery drains rapidly. I put a "mobile" widget on my home page so I can easily turn it off and on. Since I don't do email on my phone, having 3G off most of the time is not an issue for me. I do have to manually update weather, stocks, etc. but I still get all my text messages and phone calls. I can easily get through the day now with a fair amount of use--12+ hours of up time with 3+ hours of awake time including some 3G use for browsing and GPS navigation. I also use WIFI whenever possible instead of 3G.
