First of all Sorry if this question is a repetition. Can't find a proper answer for this at least relevant to latest devices like Galaxy S7.

I play lot of heavy games in S7 like MORTAL KOMBAT X, NFS No Limits, Real Racing, GTA Sanandreas, Modern Combat 5. Might be about 45 mins continuously, twice every day. The question is that whether heating up of device & the battery has any adverse affect/permanent damage to battery life(long term) causing it to last shorter when compared to how it was out of the box even with same amount of gaming. Hope everything is clear in the question.

Thanks :)

If you use your phone this way consistantly, I would think the heat would have some effect on the battery life over time.

If youre a heavy gamer I suggest get a phone with removable battery.

Battery University - How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - look at Table 3 for a comparison of life at various temperatures.
I too have a similar question. But I don't play games much. My condition is bit different. Quoting the words of Sheryl John. Here is my query,

I kind of lost interest in going for the screen replacement again to Samsung service center for trying to get a perfect screen which has very low probability. Because of doing the factory reset over and over, before repair, after repair(for the sake of getting Google to auto restore apps during initial setup process). Those whole processes of setting up the device, restoring the apps, restoring app datas, reconfiguring the apps one by one, transferring the huge chunk of media files(to internal) gets the device heated up a lot and I notice that battery getting heated up too and I doubt whether this has any adverse affect/permanent damage to battery life(long term) causing it to last shorter when compared to how it was out of the box. Worried about it since I’m planning to use this device for a long time. Should I really worry about it? OR Is there any need of doing factory reset? because if I’m not doing they will be accessing the device at least for conducting H/W Module tests.

PS: Been a iOS user so far and I’ve gone through Apple’s article once regarding battery temperature but I don’t know how it applies to latest devices like Galaxy S7 even though the battery technology hasn’t changed.

I've often wondered how much the fast wireless charging will affect my battery in the long run.
It gets quite toasty & I've always assumed high heat & Batteries don't really go well together...

I think as far as the many resets, once you get the phone going normally, it should be fine. I wouldn't think a week of resets or even two weeks would affect the battery life over time. I think quick charging is ok. It doesn't quick charge the entire time it is on the charger. Since it is the charger that comes with the phone, I would imagine it has been thoroughly tested and is safe.

"Quite toasty", and warm are not the same as hot and unless it's uncomfortably hot, then it's normal. There isn't a lot you can do to prolong battery life on LiPo devices except keep your battery moderately charged and not use it much (besides stuff like not leaving it in a hot car). What is the point of having a snapdragon 820 and a great camera and being afraid to use it. Just enjoy your bad *** phone.

Wireless charging and getting toasty shouldn't be any different than getting toasty over USB because of Quick Charge. The real question should be does inductive charging get the battery hotter than corded charging. I don't know because I change phones before I bought the wireless quick charger. Just wireless charging in and of itself would have no bearing on battery life because the battery doesn't care for the method of charging, just the charge rate and voltage.

Edit: for some reason I lost the quote. Sorry if you know all this, most people aren't into batteries, neither am I. Electronics and owning a quad copter will force you to learn boring battery information you don't want to know.

I really need to polish how I word things on forums because there is no tone to go by. IMO I sounded condescending ...I appologise and just mean "enjoy your phone and don't be afraid of the battery because there isn't anything one can do except not use it."

I feel the same way about my phone, when my lease is up the battery will be 18 months old and If I buy it because I like it, the battery may suck by then anyhow.

Was it a reply to me? Quoting my query below,

I received a Samsung Galaxy 3 a few months back as a hand-me-down from my Sister and it was fine to begin with but after a couple of weeks, the battery I think is dying. I leave it charging overnight and it shows full charge in the morning but after unplugging, within 2.5 hours the phone dies again. Can you buy batteries alone? If so around how much would I be looking at? Any ideas are welcome....:D

Yes, amazon seems to be the best place for batteries, your carrier charges a lot. Batteries for phones and point and shoot cameras seem to hover around 30-40 dollars if the gadget is newer, less for older / popular models for really good quality ones last I checked. Usually if a battery is super cheap like 10 - 20 the quality isn't as good. Batteries really still are a "You get what you pay for" item. Of course there are people that charge way too much as well.

There seems to be a ton of batteries for the S3 at amazon.com. of course it's a popular model and they made a ton. A good one seems to run around 10 bucks.

I think you might have posted in the wrong sub-forum. Regardless of whether you meant a Galaxy S3 or a Galaxy Note 3, the battery is likely to be fairly old by now and have gone through enough charge/discharge cycles to the point where your phone would probably benefit from a new battery. The safest route would be identifying your phone's model number (Settings > About phone > Model Number) and using that to get an official original equipment manufacturer's (or OEM) battery direct from their website or from a reputable third party seller. There are also third party companies like Anker on Amazon that sell replacement batteries that will work just as well in your phone. I'd also suggest doing a full factory reset as a fresh start (software-wise) will lay down the best foundation for good battery life (barring any rogue battery-draining apps or battery-draining practices you might have).

As for the topic at hand, less heat is always going to be best for any lithium-based battery chemistries. If you can avoid excessive heat you should (definitely don't leave your phone in your car on a hot day, for example) but if such anxiety hampers your day-to-day use, then your purchase of a shiny flagship device was pointless. Most people end up switching phones before any serious signs of cell degradation start to show (at least from heat) so just use your phone as you see fit. I personally don't bother with fast charging or wireless Qi charging unless I absolutely need it; I find that those two (especially Qi charging) heats up the phone quite a bit.

Hello guys. I made a mistake of fast charging my note5 when inside a pouch and it reached 40 degrees celcius upom charging for about 20 to 30 mins Do you think it may have damaged the battry? I am being paranoid now on how my batterry drains on average it drains for about 10% per hour with mobile data location and common social task like facebook or youtube. THANKS
