this TB is like an expensive italian sports car. it has tons of capabilities but you cant use it . i have been on these forums for hours and i have read every page of the 400 page manualto try to learn how to maximize the battery so that i could get through even half a day. there is only one way . shut it off . like completely . take out the battery . then at the end of half a day put the battery back in . thats it no other way . i know there will be folks on this forum that will fry me for this . ok but here is the thing. a consumer device should not require all this messing around . most of us would not put up with this with any of our other things ,not any thing. what i really think is that the TB is probably ok in and of itself . i think that for whatever reason it was loaded with such a large amount of crap that the average user using average usage with an average amount of intelligence simply can not make this work
just reactivated my BBstorm 2 ahhh feels so good to not hate my phone

Weird, I don't bump charge and my phone lasts from 6am until 10pm-11pm when I go to bed. So many people complaining about nothing, it's hilarious.

Edit: Stock battery.

You activated a storm 2 and are happy with your phone? I wanted to cry when I thought I had to go back to my bold and it does more than the storm. Good luck though. What do you plan on getting later instead? LG or Samsung or bionic?

I can get 8 or 9 hours of pretty heavy usage.
I'm talking about a display on time of 6 hours or so before I have to charge it. I usually don't let it go that long but today I've had the display on surfing, tweeting and texting for 2.5 hours and it's still at 65%

I don't understand the need to even post this, but it is an open forum.

I actually thought my Storm 2 was a neat phone, but I'm having no issues with my TB and would not go back to BB since my employer no longer supports BES.

Best of luck!

I came from a storm two also and I couldn't imagine going back but everyone is different. Have fun trolling the cb forums listening to people talk about how miserable they are all the time. I love my TB and get great battery life.

to each his own.....good luck

I wasnt going to get the TB after the delay fiasco but I am glad I did

I am sorry you had such difficulties. I decided to stay with my Storm 1 for exactly the same reason you are returning to your Storm 2. I agree with you 100%, if your mobile internet/phone/device cant survive a day on one charge from when you leave your home till you return at night - it makes no sense.

The average customer [me, probably you too] does not want to fuss with being obligated to manage the devices battery use and apps and widgets and stuff to keep the battery alive for the day.

It absolutely makes no sense.

Additionally, i dont think anyone here has any right to "fry" you for making a decision concerning YOUR device.....

1. obviously you are going "droid" and people here should take solace in that fact alone given you have other choices you could make
2. what droid device you choose should be of little consequence, going "droid" helps all those here and any member of this website who chooses to "fry" you would be participating in self defeating behavior.
3. the strength of the droids over the iPhone is exactly that,,, a choice of devices made by each manufacturer and by other manufacturers. that strength dictates that droid customers will have the different needs and desires met by different droid devices unlike the iPhone which offers one option for all its customers. droid users here should feel a sense of victory just by you choosing to go droid. Any reaction in the negative would be again counterproductive to their own self interests.

i was thinking that a good general thread here would be what droid device is best for me.....

back to topic - i am waiting for the Bionic to come out. It apparently will have a larger battery and from what i have discerned here on this BB Motorola has better battery life and battery management software in general. time will tell because i am going to wait to see what the early adopters see in terms of its battery life before i buy it. if the bionic does not have enough battery power i will continue to wait until they figure out how to make a 4g [lte] droid device that can survive one days use.

please stay in touch as to what you choose to do for your next device.

best of luck

david

Switched to thunderbolt from a bb bold, will never go back to that garbage.

BB Storm --> TB don't plan on going back to BB again. I'm 90% happy w/my TB and prolly with some practice and knowledge I'll up that %. I expected it to have issues so I was prepared for non-perfect and I'd read a bit on battery life. I still think once a majority of people have a chance to plug it in for a full 24 hours and are settled into every day phone life their battery life will improve. Android has been a HUGE improvement for me over BB. I think people were expecting something to close to perfection and now that they've seen it's not and those that aren't taking into consideration it's a brand new product and those are some of the ones that are switching back, returning, exchanging for another phone. Keep in mind I've never had an Android before so for me, this is HUGELY better than my BB even with it's issues.

If battery life was your only/main reason for going back to your BB I'd consider getting the extended humpback OEM HTC battery.

Hey at least you are going back to a device that suits your needs.
I have had BB, Treos, WM devices, etc. and love android.
I haven't ruled out down the road switching to the iphone....

It's all about what is good for the individual's needs/ wants.
The OP gave it a shot and decided it wasn't for him.

That being said, could a lot of battery issues be because everyone is "playing" with the device because it's a new toy?

I never understood why people start their own thread stating that there getting rid of their TB and that it sucks. Tons of people disagree and what good is it doing you? Sorry it didn't work out for you, have fun with your crackberry. I could never go back, but to each his own i guess.

I came from a BB Tour. I love my TB but I can only get 5 to 6 hrs out of my phone max and I've read everything and done all the tips on here as well. The sad thing for me is wy can't battery tech keep up with phone tech. The TB seems about 2 years ahead of battery tech. I just want my phone to last from 6am to 9 pm without having to charge it. Make better Batteries!!

There was a good article within the last two or three days either on CNN or MSNBC, I don't remember, but it was talking about just this issue. Smartphones are getting more and more powerful and able to do more and more things and at a faster rate with more powerful cpu's and data rates. The problem is that battery technology is not moving at the same rate and the newer devices are chewing up the batteries and spitting them out.

The one issue I have with HTC is why they didn't design a larger battery into the TB? Ok, so they may have had to add a millimeter or two to the overall width but I could live with that. I have the extended battery and it is going back because it is massive and fugly.

I'll either get another standard battery as a spare or, more likely, a portable battery power pack that I can take with me on planes.

Personally I think the only reason BlackBerry's get such good battery life is because there is so little that you can do with them that you only mess with your phone when you get a message or a call.

That's the way it was with my Storm. When I first got my Storm, the battery life was horrible because I was browsing on it all the time and I couldn't put it down. Then as I began to see limitations with the phone I stopped using it as often. Then toward the end of its life it was so ridiculously slow that I just stopped looking at it all together unless I had a text (I don't get very many calls anymore). And if I did try to look something up on it, it would take so long that the phone would start to heat up and the battery would drain very quickly because the stupid thing took forever just to get to a website.

So since about July my Storm was just a text messaging device. I'm SO happy with the Thunderbolt. I can't believe how much I missed by going to BlackBerry for just one cycle. I'll never make that mistake again.

Good luck to the OP. I hope you find another Android that fits your needs. I loved all my BBs but do not miss them at all. I never got more than 12 hours on stock BB batteries because I used it so much which is why I get extended batteries for every phone. Personally, with the limited functions i would have to do I couldn't go back.

Btw, this guy just comes to the forum to post questions that have been answered numerous times instead of searching. Then he doesn't even come back to say thanks to the people that helped him. Good riddance and good luck with that storm. I'm sure it won't survive lightning ;-)

I returned my TB as well. I'm glad some are having a good experience. For me, there are alternatives available now or soon with either a bigger battery or more optimized software. I can't live with this for a year, nevermind 2 if you opt for that type of contract. If you're staring at your battery level all the time and not enjoying the phone what's the point? Even if you occasionally do get decent battery life.

That might have been your problem. The more you light the screen up the more battery you are going to use. Sitting there and staring at your battery meter is counterproductive.
