For those peple like the bbm idea but on android, and for those like ask or give pin, liveprofile beta is that app( soon on iphone and blackberry too, try it, its fastter that bbm;)

I just downloaded this. Once i can test it out, it mat be awsome

Heres my pin. LPCPQKU3

From my Captivate :-)

Problem with all these "like BBM" programs is they don't talk to BBM so if your friends are on BBM, you won't be able to communicate with them unless you convince them to ditch that blackberry ;-)

Exactly, might as well just stick with text messaging.

Not trying to sound confrontational or anything like that, just honestly would like to know: how is this different or better than SMS, or GTalk, or AIM, or something like that? What features would make liveprofile the preferred method?

And what good is BBM when all my friends have ditched blackberry? (ok, that one is a joke)

I am using pingchat with my family. It supports media as well.

I'm using PingChat.

I think it's better than SMS because it uses data so you might be able to buy a cheaper texting plan. Not everyone has a smartphone so you probably need a texting plan, but maybe you won't need the biggest unlimited one. Me, for example...I have Verizon and most of my friends and family are on Verizon too. I get the $10 plan with 500 texts off the network and unlimited on. This works well for me and I don't have to buy the $20 plan.

I don't use GTalk or AIM, but I don't think they have the UI that PingChat has (which I happen to prefer) and media shows right up in the chat window with PingChat. I don't know if you have send pics and vids on GTalk and AIM.

I have friends that downloaded PingChat on their BlackBerry smartphones.

I use PingChat for one purpose: my girlfriend has a lot of family in Toronto so a lot of her time is spent there. While she's there she has Rogers, and they do not have unlimited texting to the U.S., so that allows us to keep in touch without her racking up a ridiculous bill.

Well I'm downloading it now, I don't mind giving it a try cause Lord knows I do miss my BBM!

I'm with some others, unless it communicates with BBM, I don't see the point. It would required my BB buddies to use another program when we can just text.

How about group conversations? That's why I use pingchat , I can communicate with my family and everyone can see the responses. SMS doesn't do that.

Group chat is nice, once pingchat gets a little more stable on message delivery I won't miss bbm at all. As or stands I only marginally miss it.
