Be careful if you move to a 3G phone then move back to a 4G phone

Re: Be careful if you move to a 3G phone then move back to a 4G p

How long is the promotion going on? I have a microsoft store relatively close I can get to this weekend

Its that way because the MSID is no longer tied to the IMEI. Verizon is using an 'old' or 'alpha' version of LTE & remember that it is for data only, voice is still transmitted via CDMA2000 1xRTT. Basically, you have their system trying to authenticate all of these different radios of various incompatible tech.

I will say its also the same for AT&T LTE as well. Special SIM cards are required for those devices as well. Until LTE-A launches w/ Sprint, youll see these issues. Yet another reason Wi-MAX was a standard for MANY years. Sad it never caught on here in the U.S., but we can point figures at lots of people for that debacle.

All of which boils down to this: SIM cards (no matter what kind, GSM or LTE) live ONCE and once they are completely de-provisioned (no longer associated with a IMEI/MEID) they are dead and can not be resucitated. If they are reassigned before that takes place they can be salvaged. This is one of the many reasons I prefer CDMA and am kinda sad to see it go. No need for a new SIM card to reactivate and old phone or a line that was completely deactivated.

Well, I changed my Rezound to my antique Palm Pixi Plus this morning so that I could take advantage of Microsoft's trade in promotion allowing you to trade in any smartphone for a new no contract Windows Phone for free (I ended up with the Focus S). Anyways, I tried to activate my Rezound again, and they said that the sim was dead and that I would have to get a new sim. Luckily, I had a few spare sims, and was able to get my phone up and running.

Do you know if this is still going on?? I have my palm pre I could do this with

I found a link on it and it lasts til 3/29 but the phone they are giving away is a HTC Trophy which you can but for 30 bucks from V

From what I have read, it is still going on. Some stores are out of phones, but you can order it and come pick it up when it is in Stock. I used a verizon phone and was able to get the att samsung focus s. Sure, the trophy is $30 on contract, and you have to pay tax, in CA on the full retail value, i paid more for tax than the actual purchase price for my Rezound. Also, this promo gives you a free phone, NO CONTRACT.

Just goes to show how desperate Microsoft is to get people to use their platform LOL ;)

I thrive off of desperate companies and their sales and promos. After all, I picked up the palm pixi plus new in box for $32 no contract, which I then traded for the focus s . I also got the touchpad 32gb for $120. Many the other deals as well. Heck, i got my Rezound for $ 50 on upgrade within 2 weeks of release in November.

Thank you for your frugal spending habits. That allowed me to purchase mine at the normal exorbant price and the U.S. mint didn't have to fire up the presses to print new bills for my purchase. I applaud you good sir for not driving up inflation.

C'mon, now -- don't hate the playa... ;)

Strangely enough, I danced the same dance. Heard about the Touchpad deal late, and just sneaked into a BB store in time to score a 32GB TP. Grabbed a Rezound yesterday when VZW.com put it back up for $50. And, yeah, I got to the M$ store in Tysons last Tuesday ... but I'm still waiting on the notification that they have the phone in stock! (So yeah, I'm going to be doing the SIM card two-step, too...)

BTW, for whatever it's worth, I'm not in the "M$ is desperate" camp. This is all about mindshare -- and since they can't get their product in peoples' hands through the normal distribution channels (from what I hear, VZW stores steer folks away from the Windows Phones), they're putting them in folks' hands however they can make that happen, hoping to prime the pump. Yes, I'm a ho to a pimpin' marketeer...

verizon has a crappy trophy, what do you expect? Rezound for $ 50 or trophy for $30? Who in their right mind would choose the trophy?
