Who makes the phone is irrelevant. That Verizon denied the Nexus is between Google and Verizon. Verizon refused to allow an unlocked phone on their network with zero input on the software loaded on it. Since Verizon wouldn't allow it, Google had no incentive to build a version that supported Verizon's network.
LG made the last two Nexus phones, and last time I looked, Verizon sells LGs.
The onus is on Verizon to change their minds, not Google.

5.0 - 4.7 = 0.3"
4.7 - 4.0 = 0.7"
The Nexus 4 was 0.3" from being a 5" device, and 0.7" from being a 4" device. If you're talking ranges, a 4.7" screen is definitely in the '5" range' and not in a '4" range'. If you had to group the Nexus 4 in a range, the only two options being 4" or 5", because it had a 4.7" screen, you'd group it up to the 5" category. Which is why your comment about the Nexus 4 being around the 4" range is incorrect.

Laptops use the same logic. An 11" screen is 11.6", a 13" is 13.3", a 15" is 15.6", etc, etc. It gets somewhat confusing because we've heard both 4.95" and 4.99" devices in phones advertised as 5" screens. For example, the Nexus 5 is 4.95".
I think ICBYH is trying to use distance from the absolute distance from the stated variable, while Ry's interpretation of exists in a range where the given integer of x equals the stated variable, and/or the floor with no decimals (rounding down to the last exceeded integer) is the variable. The industry tends to use the latter, although there are exceptions, including a Nexus - and it happens to be the most recent one. In that case, they rounded up.

4" range is 4" +/- a certain number.
Example: 4" +/- 0.3"
So for a phone to be in a 4" 'range' it would be between 3.7" - 4.3". That's a phone with a screen size in a 4" range (just an example).
No one in their right mind would say a phone with a 4.99" screen is a phone screen around the 4" range and not the 5" range. Google themselves don't play semantics like that. The Nexus 5 is a 4.95" screen, yet they advertise it as a 5" screen.
No point going on and arguing about this. If you still disagree, then we have a difference of opinion.

A few things:
I could be completely wrong. Just like everyone else commenting.

A few things:
- Nexus phones seem to be names based on how they fall in line. Nexus One, Nexus S (2), Galaxy Nexus (3), Nexus 4, Nexus 5. What I wonder is what happens when they get back around to Nexus 7.
- For all we know Google was more than happy with the way things worked out with VZW and the Galaxy Nexus.
- Speaking of the VZW GNex, why would they deny updates if the radio didn't improve? They were happy enough with it when it launched that it shouldn't have been an issue unless they got worse.
- Why does everyone think that VZW is the most difficult carrier to get things certified on?
- It doesn't make sense for Google to release a new Nexus phone that can't run 64-bit Android. How many 64-bit SoC's are currently in production and are ready to go in devices? Exactly. Heard any good rumors lately about a phone with 64-bit Tegra K1 in it? Yeah, me neither.
- On that note, I'm not sure a new Nexus phone is in the works for a fall release. What if they release a tablet this fall with L (they will definitely have a device launch to coincide with the L launch) and release a phone next Spring/Summer with the next big version? That timeline works well with the release of Snapdragon 808/810.
- Benchmarks can be tricked.

And what evidence do you have to support your statement? Anything other than the same rumor sites that are now repeating the 5.2" rumor? There's no hard evidence to support the 6" rumor, and only one site's claims to support the 5.2" rumor.
As I've said before, my evidence is my eyes...and hands. It's much bigger than the OPO.
No. Just no. The number of the device has never matched screen size on Nexus phones. Only on tablets. Each new Nexus phone has simply been one number higher than the previous: 4, 5, ......6.

If the "G" phone in the announcement invite is actually a new Moto G, then I haven't seen that one. Maybe the "G" is for Google? I don't know. haha.
Because Motorola is making it. I've seen/played with the upcoming Moto BT headset, the X+1, the Moto Nexus, and the 360.
