benefits to apps2sd?

Frees up some ram so the phone can run a bit smoother.

The Optimus V has relatively little space available to install apps. Moving apps to the SD card allows more applications to be installed.

I use link2sd as I could not get apps2sd to work for me. I currently have a 1 gb partition that I store apps and the delvik cache to.

Does it take more time for the apps to load from the sdcard?

I haven't noticed any difference but, I also changed my cache size to 1g.

Apps2SD is built into the function of the stock ROM, right? Because I see an app in the market named "Apps2SD" as well, but that's just to manage/facilitate the process of moving apps to and from SD, right?

Widgets need to be on the phone's memory most times to function correctly and yes there is a small difference between phone memory and SD cards but is for most unnoticeable. Auto-updates also rarely work for apps on SD cards.

Frees up RAM? Wish I would have known that when I had the Intercept, I've never ran out of RAM on OV nor needed more internal storage space.

I am using Link2sd and have not had any problems with widgets or updates.

If an app is moved to the SD card using Froyo's implementation (place them in /sdcard/.android_secure) then widgets for that app will not work.

If an app is moved to the SD card using links then widgets for that app will continue to work assuming nothing goes wrong.

If you have Cyanogenmod there's no point installing apps2sd because that functionality is supported natively.
