Best but Incompatible - Recommendations for Ottercase Defender or Whitesone Dome Glass?

It's a big disappointment that the most rugged case for the Note 8 (Defender) and THE best glass screen protector (Whitestone Dome) do not play well together. If Whitstone would make the Dome about a mm shorter on the bottom it could be perfect. There's nothing with better touch response except for no protector at all. And for a fast moving, regular dropper, you'd have a lot of convincing to do to get me away from the awesome Defender.

But that's exactly what I'm asking for. Is there an equally rugged case that works perfectly with the Dome? Or is there an equally perfect screen protector that plays well with the Defender?

I'm hoping for recommendations based on data and experience, not opinions & preferences, and colors don't motivate me - just protection and functionality for this great little $1,000 investment. Thanks!

Having had my phone in a Defender flung against a wall screen-first, without a mark on the wall, the phone or the case (it was on a wireless charging pad, my elbow caught the cable as I got up and moved my arm and ... crash!), I'd say there's no better case. (All my phones have been in one.)

Why not write to Whitestone and ask if they can either just cut the protector 1mm shorter, or make it work with the Defender? The best screen protector should be known as one that will work with the best case. I'd think that they'd want that. (It's the only reason I haven't bought one yet - no reports from people actually using the combination on a Pixel 2.)
