Has anyone that has purchased their Droid from best buy also gotten their cell phone insurance? It's 9.99, but since i did a price match it brought my ins. price down to 6.99 (a buck cheaper than vzw)...it seems to cover more than verizon's ins, pretty much covers EVERYTHING except lost or stolen. i'm more prone to accidental damage than losing the phone...

also, there is unlimited claims (vzw has only 2), no deductible (vzw's is $75), they'll replace if unfixable with new off the shelf phone...not a refurb, and if fixable they'll give you a loaner.

i am so so so undecided on whether to cancel my other ins or not and get this

I had VZW's insurance as long as I've been a customer. But I did upgrade through Best Buy and decided to give their insurance a shot. Hopefully they'll come through like they state.

I'm trying to decide what to do myself. I haven't insured a phone for years. (My razr fell out of my pocket into the bilge of our sailboat several years ago, the only time I've destroyed a phone.)

$10/month works out to be $240 for the two year period of ownership. On the face of it, that's not too bad.

I think it is worth it. My wife tends to break her phone. When I upgraded her a couple months back to the Storm I purchased the 9.99 a month. (didnt know they priced matched that BOOO oh well) Then just this weekend she fell down on her phone. Blam broken storm. Went up to BestBuy they did a Rapid Exchange and gave me $600 store credit voucher towards anyphone. Well they didnt have any more storm1's.. So i got her the droid. Was in and out in less then 30 minutes. No questions asked beyond what happened? and phone number to look up the black tie plan.

Actually, $6.99 is as high as insurance goes for androids on vzw, and it covers lost/stolen/damaged/defective devices. And sorry to disappoint, deductible is $99. If you can't even get your facts straight about the insurance you want to dump, why should we belive your facts are straight about the insurance you want?

Buyer Beware!! I was very happy with Best Buy's cell phone insurance - until they cancelled me without any forewarning! My credit union was hacked in to and my debit card # was stolen. My credit union sent me a new debit card, but unbeknownst to me Best Buy was unable to collect their $10 monthly fee on the new card. Apparently, this went on for 4-5 MONTHS - but I was NEVER contacted by Best Buy that there was a problem. Then, when my cell phone needed to be sent in for repairs (it stopped charging) - they told me my account has been deactivated. I apologized for the oversight and explained what had happened. When I tried to give them my new debit card # and offer to pay for the 4-5 months when the payment wasn't made, they told me that once the cell phone insurance was deactivated you can NEVER get it again. To say I was flabbergasted would be an understatement. I told them I was never contacted by phone, email, or regular mail that there was a problem with my monthly payment. They insist they tried to contact me, but won't offer any 'proof' that contact was even attempted.
Won't ever do ANY business with them again.

I had a similar experience. It appears they can cancel whenever they want, hopefully they allow the consumer to also cancel whenever they want, which I doubt. Best Buy is being very shady with how they're dealing with these matters. Makes you think twice about getting extended warranties of any kind with them.

For what its worth, I've used Ensquared insurance for my phones for the last 3 years. Its $60 a year up front and a $75 deductible for a claim. I only had to make a claim once, and got a new phone, not a refurb. They say you have up to 5 claims per year, but I haven't tested that one. It sucks to have to use insurance anyway, but there are other options out there. I was burned by Asuron when I had to use them 4 years ago, so I'll never do that again. I've heard good and bad things about best buy insurance, but I don't use them myself.
