Best Buy Warning

Costco is a very successful business and they have one of the most generous return policies. They don't give you grief about it or make you feel guilty returning things or charge you "restocking fees ". Even their return policy for electronics is 90 days, which is better than most, including Best Buy. Best Buy was struggling awhile back (not sure if things have improved for them recently) but if they think they're going to improve themselves by banning customers then they can watch those customers walk over to Costco who will gladly take our money and give it back if we choose to return something.

Get a clue Best Buy or become the next Circuit City, Tower Records, etc...

That's BS if the item is defective or broken out of the box. Was this just for expensive items, or cheap ones too?

What about people who buy a lot from Best Buy? It would suck if you returned a few cheap things and then have to return or exchange a phone because it's defective. I'd be livid and disputing the original charge then.

Some people on here call Best Buy "Worst Buy" when it comes to buying phones there.

People just need to stop returning everything they buy cheap or not and they won't have this issue. I never buy unless I am 100% sure that in am going to keep it. Too many people have buyers remorse and they shouldn't be buying anything in that case because they are abusing the system and it's not fair to the company or to others who actually have a VALID reason to return their item.

I've been banned from returning at Best Buy from time to time and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. I think it's BS. It shouldn't matter why an item is returned if the store's return policy is followed. Why have a return policy if it's not ok to use it?

I was an elite plus member and got banned late last year after exchanging a few phones. There seems to be no exact reason or trigger. I wrote the store manager a long email about the situation twice and never go a response. They use a 3rd party to track it, they don't even have a way to override it if you can show them a obvious defective product. I can't even imagine it is legal to ban a return if it doesn't say so on the receipt even though you were warned say 6 months prior. I think they should be required to print it our on the receipt.

Even if you did get banned. It wouldn't stop you from just having someone else return things for you. If they ban you just have someone else do it no big deal.

This would probably only work if yo paid cash, but then they probably wouldn't have enough cash and have to mail you a corporate check in 2 to 4 weeks.

Nope. Works with credit as well. I've done it. The refund just goes back to the original form of payment. They don't even need to see it.

Yes it does. Like it said I've done it multiple times. I'm and elite plus member. I've done it .my wife Returns stuff for me a lot. They never ask her for anything but the receipt.

The issue when buying phones is you never know how its going to work for you until you try it. I buy way more from Best Buy a year than I probably should because I like to hold an item before putting money on it. Of the 7 phones Ive returned this year, none of them were because I had buyers remorse or I just wanted to try it. 1 phone was an open item and the manufacturer refused to allow me to buy a warranty for it. A couple of them didnt get as good of a reception in rural areas due to not accessing band 14 on T-Mobile even though the specs show band 14 as an option. 1 phone was uncomfortable to use after a day. And the others just didnt fit with my day to day routine.

As far as how the ban works, its not store by store, never has been. Its handled by a 3rd party company who monitors returns. The store has absolutely zero say in the matter. So if this happens, do not attack the store or its employees. Ask for the number you can call to appeal the 3rd party companies decision.

It was three phones for me. One S8 that wouldn't power on. One S8+ with a pink screen and dust or dead pixels under the glass, and the trigger that banned us was the Note 8 with green line and dim display. The sales people couldn't have agreed with me more that all three phone were absolutely defective. But when the return was declined the store went silent, the general manager was useless. I called the company that Best Buy hires to monitor their returns and I fell on deaf ears immediately.

Never will we step foot in a Best Buy again. And our CC company returned our money...Last laugh was on you Best Buy and Retail Equation.

If they're defective units that is BS a return gets denied. Is the policy listed on the receipt? They'd have to call the police to remove me. I'd sue in small claims court for the refund. Personally, I would use a debit or credit card for big purchases like this. If they deny it then dispute it with the card company or your bank and possibly contact attorney general.

They do. It's in the receipt fine print at every retailer you can imagine, save for Costco

They probably didn't enter the return properly. TRE has different classes of return and it's all dependent on the store. Stores are also able to override the system, but rarely do.

I've read people being denied returning small amount items as well. Home Depot and JC Penny use the same company. I hate it too how this third party company stores your drivers license info as well. Not the store, but a third party company. With all the data breaches these days, that's scary. If you're still getting rejected returning defective merchandise, that's BS. I think the real reason retailers like this third party company is because they can deny everyone returns which saves them money. But yea, Best Buy for returns on a defective product sounds like it might even be worse than a Samsung return experience. Probably best to buy from your carrier.

They don't deny everyone. It's all based on the frequency of returns, the amount of the return, and returns at other stores. That's why most use TRE; because they can pool that data and if someone has a history of returning merchandise frequently, they will block their ability to do so. If the device was defective, the store has the ability to mark it as such, and it shouldn't be included in the total unless they have quite a few of them.

2 defective phones with dead pixels. A 4K tv dead out f the box and a couple of keurig coffee makers that were defective too. Sometimes their policy is not fair.
TRE also monitors several other big national retailers like Macy’s. So they can link your credit or debit card to Macy’s as well and ban you from both sites.
