There are TWO sets of 'phone data'. The OS configuration, e.g., what email accounts to sync, needs to be erased any time you flash a new ROM. But the data-files on your SD card, e.g. music and photos, can usually be left alone.

P.S. I think there are actually two sub-sets of OS configuration files, too?

Yes, syncing Facebook with your contacts is a feature specific to HTC Sense. You'll lose that feature if you install Cyanogenmod (or any AOSP based ROM for that matter).

Correction. The newest release of the Facebook app in the App Market allows for contact syncing.

I think he was referring to the feature with facebook updates on the phone contact lists, Friendstream. That's a Sense widget not available with cyanogenmod.

But yes, the new facebook update allows you to sync contacts now.
