best kernel for CM7

hey I am really new to hacking android and I am now running CM7 on my evo but I am seeing this stuff about kernels. do I need a new kernel? if so what is the best kernel and how do I put it on my evo. is using a kernel how you overclock your phone?

Tiamat is a good one. 3.3.7 is very popular. Also, Savaged-Zen is another popular kernel. You just have to try them out. One kernel might work best for one person, but that same kernel might not for another.

I have good success with Tiamat 3.3.7 + vipermod, 75mv undervolt, I get very good battery life. Today with light to moderate usage I got 10 hours and still had 55% left. Heavy usage naturally chews through more, but I can get through a whole day no problem.

Haven't tried Savaged-Zen because Tiamat has never left anything to desire.

so can I just download the tiamat from kernel manager and install over my CM7? will it do anything to my CM7?

General advice is to wipe cache, dalvik-cache, and battery stats before a new kernel flash.
