best low priced tablets?

I agree...do not get a tablet with less than 1 gig unless you are so strapped for cash you have no choice. It's not worth it IMO.
.

+1. I have a one gig tablet and when I am browsing graphics or video heavy sites with chrome, it can kill background processes like TTS. I'm running kit Kat which is supposed to be good on devices with as little as 512 RAM.

Hey I have had the Asus memo pad 7 me176c for just over a month now and its fantastic. 150 bucks for intel 64bit atom quad core that DESTROYS the 2013 nexus 7

There is a lot of bloatware that hampers the 1 gig of ram but Asus makes an app called root zenfone And you can root right from your device no computer needed. All my bloat is gone AMD when all apps are closed I have about 375mb of free ram. This little powerhouse never slows down for me. ...I guess the 35000 antutu scores don't hurt ;)

I would mark this as one of the best tablets of 2014 let alone the best budget tablet !

How much compatibility is there with standard Android apps? Aren't you limited to apps that have been recompiled for the Atom processor? I don't imagine there are very many in Google play store.

I have not had a single issue. All my apps work FAST. And with android L android is getting native x86 support so its only getting better and better.

Not on everything. The Nexus has a better display (better than the iPad even). The Memo pad has 216 ppi...the Nexus has Retina-quality 323ppi (My Droid 1 has a 267ppi...so there is that). It's also brighter (572 nits compared to 271 nits for the Memo Pad) and has better color accuracy. Nexus has a better battery. It will definitely get better support. The Memo Pad just has a better processor. The Nexus has double the RAM....Memo Pad only has 1 gig of RAM, something you WILL notice in multitasking.

The Memo Pad does have SD though, which I admit is a big deal. The Nexus has wireless charging though.

The Nexus 7 is one of the best tablets of 2014 as well...despite coming out in 2013.

I've rooted my tab and trashed all bloatware. Everything in do it does incredible. No slowdowns at all.

Heck this tab is easier to root than nexusn7 as well

It's comparable to a GS4 or Note 2. Which isn't garbage IMO.

What is the Asus Memo Pad touch response rated as?
I'm not knocking the device at all. I just had issues with mine and found out they were very common. The right hand part of the screen closest to the bezel would work half the time

The memo pad 7 has 10 finger multi touch that's 100% responsive

Maybe you had a bad unit. Mine works great all over. I have never encountered dead spots on the display.

I've never needed 10 finger multi-touch. Maybe thats why I never missed it. The Nexus 7 is as responsive as any other high end tablet I've used.

I even got a multi touch test app from Google play and with one finger around then edges it would constantly cut In and out.

I can't wait for android L and native x86 support to really make this Intel atom shine. Proper 64bit integration will make this device even better as system apps and thrid party apps will be even more efficient on ram

I believe you. I'm just saying it's not the norm. Mine works perfectly.

Well, it's ASUS...so it's anyone's guess as to when it'll be updated. My transformer took FOR-ever to get updates. Thats another reason I prefer Nexus.

I don't hate the Memo pad...I can't think of a better tablet for that price actually. If someone told me they were not willing to spend a penny over $150, I would tell them to buy this. But I don't think it competes with the Nexus 7 directly...any top tier tablet needs to have 300+ ppi at a bare minimum IMO.

Yea I hear ya on the screen not being color accurate, but that being said the splendid app that let's you manipulate the saturation and vividness of the screen. It helps a lot.

KitKat isn't horrible really I'm happy with it. But I'm guessing this tab will get at least one major update given its only been around for about 2 months or so
