Best Note 3 launcher

So what will you lose if you go with nova prime? Meaning touchwiz festures? I do like the voice control features (taking photos, answering calls, etc) and I'm wondering if those will remain?

Oh yeah all that remains. Changing your launcher is mainly for cosmetic / aesthetic purposes like being able to re-arrange your app drawer into tabs and folders, different views, etc. That's in addition to changing the look of your homescreen, your icons and tweaking your key shortcuts and things like that. As far as I know you don't "lose" any features that come with the phone, its just mostly layout customization and whatnot.

Here's a few of mine, not rooted btw.

I have used Nova Launcher many times, I keep uninstalling it because I wanted some of the native widgets that they don't offer. Perhaps the best combination is Nova Launcher (Prime) + Beautiful Widgets and a nice Theme Pack. Any recommendations on themes or theme designers that work best with Nova?
Which native widgets do not appear within Nova?

I use GO Launcher EX prime with GO multiple wallpapers.

You will find most people split 50/50 over Apex/Nova. Try out the free version of each and find which works best for you. It's rare (in my experience) for people to switch from one to the other (they have very similar features) and while you may not need the premium features of either launcher I encourage you to buy it if you like it (I think they're each $4.99) because we really should support the developers if we want them to continue updating developing their applications and also new ones. Their are numerous theme packs for both launchers that allow you to change icons/wallpapers/fonts etc. and many of them are free. Their are lots of other launchers (Phil Nickinson is a big fan of Action Launcher). To me, one of the biggest advantages of a launcher (just like the OS itself) is it changes most of the OS feel away from the OEMs (Sense, Touchwiz, LG UI, etc) and if you move to a new phone you can immediately get it working like your old phone (for the most part) just by installing the launcher (including you can migrate the data so your new phone has all the icons, etc in the right place).

@spencerdl - Is the 'red' them you posted here, a default choice for Nova launcher free / paid?

It's the paid version of Nova Prime. I just added the wallpaper, Bob Clock,Veross icons and Zooper calendar widget (all FREE)

I have six to eight of the most popular launchers on my Note 3. I always go back to Next Launcher 3D Shell. For me as a power business user I need the ToDo List and Calendar widgets, etc. that come with Next 3D Shell. Nova Prime, Apex and some of the others are better price performers but for customizing the maximum widgets and icons Next is just over the top for efficiency and they are updating with new features every month or two.

For day to day productivity of a power user and business professional Next is what I really use. As of today I have Nova Prime($4.00, updated Aug 17, 2013) and Next Launcher 3D Shell($16.99, updated May 14, 2014) as well as some of the other popular launchers for 2014. If money is tight and you can live without some of the features, widgets, not interested in a 3D User Interface then Nova will probably be good enough. I always have said Nova is one of the best bang for the buck launchers, but............

Next 3D Shell is the Cadillac of Launchers right now and as you can see it comes with a Cadillac price but as a power user it is worth the extra money because I depend on the Calendar, ToDo List and other PIM widgets so much.

I just used buzz launcher it's pretty good as well. I love their themes as they are very creative with them.

I just installed Solo launcher. It is virtually identical to Nova, in look/ feel and setup. it works and feels exactly the same - and everything in it is 100% totally free!

I just dumped Nova because the new unread message notifier doesn't work on my mail app...even though I have not selected it for that app. It always shows 3 unread messages. Nova support and updates are poor.

I'm going to try Solo, but I have no problems with Nova Prime Launcher. I have tried many launchers and seem to always return to Nova.

Hi. New to the forum. Hi everyone. I was wondering about the negative comments on the Play store concerning the battery drain on the NOVA launcher. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a battery drain with this launcher activated?

No, the battery use is negligible and less than the touchwiz home launcher.

Thanks JPR. Gonna grab it right now. Got my Note 3 Yesterday. Trying to learn more about Android. I'm coming from an IOS Background since the 3S days. Just love the freedom you have with the Android OS

It helps, if you would ask me, to remove all widgets from original launcher before switching...anything like google search bar or any weather widgets, music widgets, quick dialers etc. Widgets constanly update and run so only having them on one launcher will cause less drain on battery.
BTW I use nova prime and love it.
