Best place to buy a Nexus 5X today 4-2016?

So there is no way to combine the Fi deal $50 off the Google Store is discounting the 5X?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm already a Fi subscriber with a 6P, ordered the 5X to have as a "throw around" phone, to use when the 6P is just too much or I'm worried it'll break. When I went to buy it through my Fi account it was already $199 (got the 16 GB as it's not my primary device). It's out for delivery now, just awaiting delivery then activation once I get home.

I think I have an answer

"In addition, if you purchase a Nexus 5X from the Google Store while this offer is valid, and then activate Fi service on the device, then you will automatically receive a partial refund to the form of payment used to purchase. The partial refund amount will match the difference between the amount you paid for the Nexus 5X and the Fi promotional price. You do not need to contact Project Fi or Google Store customer support to receive the partial refund, as it will be automatically applied within two weeks of reactivating Fi service."

It sounds like google will refund less money if you pay less thatn the $350(16)/400(32) price.

That said, just order through the Fi site and get it for the lower price instantly rather than waiting on the refund.

I just got an email confirming I'm getting a credit back from Google after activating my phone on fi. They also confirmed the credit will get me back down to the 249 cost for the phone (not 199 as I originally thought, based on their "up to 150 credit" note on their website).

It's still good though - I had to do it this way anyway, to get their one time purchase insurance instead of the monthly charge for insurance.

Yes, if you want Nexus Protect (the Google Insurance) order through the Google Store so you can add the insurance on, and order the SIM card from Project Fi. This is also the way to do it if you want the Ice color, since Project Fi is out of that color. After you activate the phone on Project Fi they'll refund the difference in the price you paid and the Fi price.

If you just want the phone (either white or black) but no insurance, it is easiest to just order through Project Fi, since you won't have to wait to get money back.

As far as Project Fi, as mentioned, the minimum monthly payment is $30. When you start Project Fi, it will start service but won't charge your first month's service for about 10 days -- it always is about 10 days behind between the start of your month of service and the payment date. If you quit in those first 10 days, I'm guessing they still charge you for the first month of service and then refund the unused balance (though it sounds some here will be able to tell us for sure).

I got my credit back from Google today: $107.28 (weird amount).
So my end cost for a brand new Nexus 5X is $241.72.

I'll take it - this is the least expensive phone I've bought in years, & it's pretty nice.

I believe the reason for the weird amount is that they refunded the tax on the price difference -- basically you are only being charged the sales tax on what you would have paid Project Fi for the phone.
