Best SMS/MMS app for Nexus 5?

I may be the only one who actually likes using Hangouts as my default SMS app. Using it on my Nexus 5 and actually made it the default on my Note 3 and Moto X as well. If I wasn't using it I'd probably go back to my "old faithful" Textra.

I love it too, its nice and simple and works good, but trying to actually hangouts someone(not sms) is where the problem's start as there aint a simple way to start a hangout conversation with someone but other than that its great

8sms and textra. Both lightweight and smooth. If you want something with more features and customization then handcent or gosms. I'm using 8sms now. I was previously using Facebook messenger until the last update that messed up the SMS feature.

I'm currently using 8SMS because I like the quick reply feature (That was one thing I really liked from the Cyanogenmod roms), but miss the way Textra displays mms and slideshows. Both are really good in my opinion.

I'm currently trying aosp 4.4 sms on my wife's Nexus 5, seems simple and easy for her to use. If I decide to buy myself a Nexus 5, I'll probably use the same app.

I changed default SMS app Textra after my first day with Hangouts. Quick, smooth no issues so far.

did you try going into settings and setting group chats as mms. group chats are working fine for me

I actually really like the Hangouts app but if I had to choose an alternative it would be Sliding Messaging Pro.

Sliding Messaging. It used to have some problems sending MMS but all is well now. If you want a similar look to hangouts but functionality that actually works, go with it.

I have been messing around with Textra and 8SMS. I started using Textra first and I liked it. I was having issues sending pictures though. I went through the settings and messed around with them but I still couldn't get a picture to send. I switched over to 8SMS and everything has been working fine so far. I'm still looking for a different app though.

I use MYSMS it works great and uses voice texting and I can text from my lap top and tablet too and they are all synced.

Ninja SMS has the best pop up window of any SMS all and let's you pop up only certain contacts. It works similar to Facebook Messenger pop up chat heads, but the physics of the movement aren't as elegant.

This is subjective, but Hangouts is just too plain looking for me, and I can't stand it.

I'm using Go SMS right now, everything works perfect for it. I would be using Handcent, but the notification light doesn't work for Handcent on the N5.
