Best texting/messages app?

I don't doubt that it has superior customisation to the stock app. Just wanted to point out that there was a little bit of UI tweaking that can be done on the M9 app. I had an M7 and it had preset colour themes (and they might have even had different options for the bubble shapes and stuff too). I think the customisation on the M9 messaging app is a step backwards from the M7 app. But I don't really play around with it myself, I like the grey.

At first I didn't like the stock messaging app. I've gotten used to it now. With Textra I have it a little more colorful. Honestly can't decide if I don't like the stock app better.

I use trxtra but I think it's ugly but its IMO the best overall.

Compose a message from the notification bar as well as quick reply from when you receive a text are both great features. I think google messenger is also a good but not dark theme kinda kills it.

I think it's a little ugly as well. Even with changing bubble colors, themes, and background. Just not super happy about it for some reason. I do love the quick reply. I've missed that from my iPhone 6. However, I think iOS implements it alot better than Textra. Isn't quick reply built in on 5.1?

One of the main reasons I started using Textra about 2 years ago was due to the notifications. On my M7 when I received a text it would only notify me once. With Textra I have it set to notify me every 2 minutes up to a total of 5 times until I check the text. So if I don't hear it the first time Textra will notify me a few more times until I do check it. That plus the customizations are well worth the .99 cents for me.

No idea but look into Google messenger, they also have the quick reply feature. I think textra isn't anything special, don't see the hype, it's ugly and the 5 second delay feature came from gosms.

I get what you're saying, but I do like it for other reasons. I like that the display lights up for messages, the ability to set different text tones for different contacts, custom vibration patterns for different contacts, repeat notifications, and the ability to have only the contact displayed on notification. I know there are other messaging apps that have similar features, but I wanted to see how long I could use stock messaging app before I looked into 3rd party solutions. Textra is just the first I tried because of its popularity.

I've tried all the ones mentioned above, but find chompSMS the best for me (and it's highly customizable).

I use "hello" and absolutely love it on the m9. I haven't read about anyone using it on here yet so give that a try.

I've been using Handcent since I started this thread. I like alot of the options, but searching texts is impossible. You click the search field and it takes f o r e v e r for it to even register the first letter you input of the search. I've never been able to search my texts. Might switch to Textra for a bit since you've all been raving about it.

the one thing I do love about the stock app is the secure folder, haven't been able to find that in any other messaging app

I used Handecent forever until I recently heard about Textra and it's my new favorite and I like it alot. I just don't like how your phone has to be on mobile data to send a picture/mms cause I am mostly on wifi but I still like it.
