Ok - so now I have used Tango, Qik, and Fring. Fring may still be my favorite, but what am I supposed to expect out of the quality here?

My wife will be home on our FiOS WiFi connection and I will be at work in Los Angeles with full bars - I give you this info so that you don't think I live in po-dunk somewhere that is lucky to have 56k modems. When we video chat with almost any of them we see messages on our screens about the network quality is low - even if I am home and we are both on the FiOS WiFi. It then gets better, gets worse, gets better, gets worse, and disconnects.

Is this a problem with one of our phones? Or is this the normal (frustrating) experience that everybody has?

Another vote for Tango. I just installed it yesterday and used it several times already. It's far superior to Fring and easy to set up since there's almost no registration process.
