Best video settings for Tivo Stream 4K on an RCA 4k TV?

I'd need to find something available on google tv, and vudu, and amazon prime etc that I already own...

There's plenty of 4K content on Prime Video, so try something there (unless you already own some 4K stuff from Google or Vudu).

I own a handful of titles in 4k according to vudu that I can check on the various services.

You've tried changing the HDMI port that the Tivo is plugged into?

I have it plugged into hdmi 1 since most streaming boxes give better results when on the first port...lemme go check the other 3 ports.

update:
all 4 ports, same result. it displays in the standard 4k resolution but with a refresh rate half that of what it should be.

I checked the RCA site to see if there's a firmware upgrade for that model, but couldn't find anything. See if there's anything in the TV's menu related to firmware updates.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to try. My gut tells me it's an issue with the TV. If you can test your Tivo on another TV from one of the leading brands (like LG or Samsung), that might help you figure it out.

the only other tvs I have are 1080p 32 inch tvs, so short of buying another 4k...

I mean its possible its the tivo, I COULD get my hands on a competitor's device fairly easily, such as a roku or fire stick...

none... I saw over on nvidia shield tv's forums that 60fps(hertz) 4k needs hdcp 2.0, I'm trying to see if the tivo has such a requirement.
I checked the hdcp of the rca 4k tv with my roku streamer, its hdcp 1.4(I presume the roku can detect if its 2.0?)

ok, tivo specs say hdcp 2.2....now that leaves the tv...I cant find the specifications for it, but the regular RTU5540 supports 2.2 hdcp, so what does the C model support?

Sorry, I can't find that either. It looks like Curtis International makes that TV (or at least sells the same TV and puts its brand name on it), but searching for that also gives me nothing.

I'd guess that your model has the same specs as the model without the "-C" designation, though.

progress!

the edid was set to 1.4 by default in the setup menu for the tv...I just changed it to 2.0 lets see what happens shall we?

I figured this out when I happened to be paging through the manual and saw the screenshot with the EDID setting.

however now I have a new problem.

(is it wrong that this scene from st generations pops into my head? https://youtu.be/fpvs5m5ImKg?t=18 )

at 4k60p it flickers and stutters worse than a tourette's sufferer(no offence intended to any with this condition...I lack other words to describe this)
if I reboot the device? it cooperates.
if I then turn off the tv and turn it on later? its stuttering.
setting it to 4k50p

Nice detective work! But the persistent problems still make me think it's a hardware (or firmware) issue on the TV.

It probably won't do much, but I'd try this on all 4 HDMI ports again, now that you've adjusted that setting.

I did..no dice. I'm going to spend some money next month on a fire stick 4k at my local walmart and use that to test...I'm leaning towards the tivo..as some further detective work revealed other users suffering this problem, and a veritable hodgepodge of fixes which seem to work for one user but not another.

given the absolute mess that is tivo's software, I would NOT be surprised if its the device.

question, related to my current problem above...

are there any apps for android tv that will tell me what hdcp standard my tv is using?
