Best way to set up ATK

I'm new to Android, came over from the webOS crew. I have been going through topic after topic, getting all the battery tips and changing many things. I do notice certain people swear not to use these that it will destroy the phone experience. Yet to me I don't know how much I believe it. So how do I set this up, so that it auto kills like the sprint apps and unnecessary apps.

I have mine set up to kill everything within a minute that's not a constant widget like Clock and Weather or an app that I'm likely to return to like Dolphin browser.
