"Best Wi-Fi performance" setting

I have a question about one of the Wi-Fi options buried deep under the Settings option. When you drill down into Settings/Wireless & networks/Wi-Fi settings, you can access the Advanced settings by pressing the Menu key. Once there you have the option of selecting a check box identified as "Best Wi-Fi performance" (along with a warning about increased power consumption).

Anyone know what this setting does to improve Wi-Fi performance?

Basically, I guess, it increases Wifi signal range at the expense of your battery. If you're located close to the Wifi router you can probably turn it off to save battery power.

Thanks for the link. Hadn't seen any info about it. Will leave the option off unless I need it.

Seems like it gives the WiFi a slight boost in final strength. I used WiFi analyzer while boggling this option and I saw the meters signal strength change in correlation.

home screen>menu>settings>wireless & networks> wifi settings>menu>advanced>Best Wifi Performance

BestWifiPerformance is already on the screen, no need to hit Menu after hitting Advanced

This "Best Wi-Fi" must be new because I do not have it on my DINC. I never even knew about the advanced settings for wi-fi. I did see in my phone that it has a wi-fi sleep policy option.
The three option are:
1)When screen is off
2)Never when plugged in
3) Never

Anyone know what is best for battery life. I am thinking #1 since that is what is was set at to begin with but I am not sure.

I think you guys are just guessing about "Best WiFi performance" setting. I'm not sure what it does internaly but I can tell you from my own experience ind testing that Skype app is useless on WiFi when this feature is off. However as soon as it is ticked on Skype stars working perfectly. And one more thing- it makes no diffrence how far are you from your router, so it will not increase your range, just the consitancy of the wifi connection. I would like to hear from manufacturer of my HTC Sensation or Android people explaining why on earth default setting makes the phone's WiFi performance so badly impaired? No guessing pseudo expert guys need to answer, only knowlagable guys please.

Facepalm. You don't need an htc rep you need a college course in em physics and electrical engineering dsp. You can't just say "that answer's wrong here's why", listing what is more than likely a software bug in a program not officially released for your phone, and then go on to discredit xda: literally the most respectable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy community in all of the android master race. Least of all for the word of a company rep which, if you didn't know, isn't worth the time it takes to read.

I hope you don't honestly believe everything you read on the Internet regardless of what forum it appears on. Further, I have found that with the feature turned off the Android approved spotify app does not stream properly, however with the feature turned on it does... Which agrees with the claim the feature makes the connection more "frequent " or "consistent " rather than boosting the reception.
