I'm in the beta program (TMO Pixel 6) and on build S3B1. 220218.004 (latest update). I'm wondering what I wind up with if I: Exit the beta program and factory reset.
Do I get the latest public release w/March 5 security update or am I stuck with S3B1. 220218.004?

It's totally unclear from Google's handwaving nor are there any cogent explanations.

When you opt out your phone will receive the public stable release and will wipe your phone. You don't have to do a factory reset yourself. See screenshot from the beta page.

Opting out for me I had to use the flash tool to return to public stable but I am unlocked bought from Google. The update that was sent to revert was only 451mb and after applying kept prompting me for same update and build continued to stay at S3B1. Flashing took 15 minutes and back now on second Feb build. Phone did wipe but restored using Google 1 backup I did before opting out.

Yes, I think that's the issue. Google has f***k*d up the smooth return and you cannot flash with a locked bootloader. Bunch of posts on XDA referring to the same problem. So there's no return from beta on a carrier (locked) phone.

I think this is what just happened to me. I can never flash anything as this is a locked bootloader. NOTHING SAID BY ENROLLING IN THIS BETA YOU WILL BE PERMANENTLY STUCK IN IT. It's nuts. In fact my system update is now permanently saying to update to get to the next public stable release of 451MB. WTF!

Google is such crap now. I was such a big fan but this is insanely messed up. I now have a 1K device eternally on a beta program that itself doesn't seem like it can even be updated. I want to go to their headquarters and chuck it through their window. Seriously they should be legally liable.

I've got tmo to permanently unlock mine. My oem unlock is now not grayed out so here is hoping I can if not have the Ota install. At least use the flash tool.

Update: I'm back on stable A3 with March Security Patch

I was able to unlock the bootloader by changing it in developer settings, then running Android Flash Tools to install the March 2022 stable release. It factory reset the device, but it unlocked the bootloader then locked it again once the software installed.

If you're stuck on the 12 beta, I think at some point they'll have a stable 12 release that they will migrate you on to, before the Android 13 release.

Otherwise you could unlock the bootloader, flash the stable software then lock the bootloader again and you'll be off the beta.

How do I unlock the bootloader? This is a verizon device. I paid it off and moved it to T Mobile. AFAIK the bootloader should still be locked.

In developer options, there's a setting 'OEM unlocking - allow the bootloader to be unlocked'. I switched that on, and then I was able to unlock the bootloader via Android Flash Tool.

I'm not on Verizon though, so maybe the carrier has disabled that option.

Flash.android.com automates all of that. You connect your phone, select it on the page, select the image you want, and it unlocks the bootloader, downloads the image and install it then re-locks the bootloader.

Yeah. That option does not exist on Verizon phones.

I just opted back into the beta so I can get the next update. Then hopefully after that I can go back to stable.

I mean Google is already bad but it would go from bad to worse if you still can't get out of the beta

I'm with Verizon too. this all seems to be such a mess. Yes, we volunteered for the 12L Beta, but hopefully, Google really doesn't intend to keep us all locked into the Feature Beta program that we didn't volunteer for.

I mean I would think they will do that at some point. But what a bunch of crap they have shown they are capable of. I have a wiped phone for zero reason. I don't mind a factory reset when it does something, but when it's because of misinformation by a TECH company, it's bs.
