[Beta Testers Wanted] PingChat! Cross Platform Messaging App (BBM for all Platforms)

Am I missing something? Whats the difference between this and another IM app.. or just simple sms texting? if both users need to have the app installed to communicate then... no really, am I missing something?

The difference is that other IM apps are useful and allow you to communicate with other chat protocalls (msn, yahoo, gtalk, etc.). Pingchat... it's a proprietary chat that's not very functional from what I can tell.

If Palringo for Android was as good as Palringo for WM, then we wouldn't have to look any further for the perfect IM app. Pingchat certainly isn't it.

I can't wait for everyone to realize that having tons and tons of proprietary messaging systems is causing nothing more than clutter and confusion. I don't need, once again, ANOTHER chat client trying to mimic BBM that only works between users of that specific program.

"Yay! I have PingChat! Oh damn, Jane uses pMessenger. I'll go download that now!!!"

Developers of these apps, here's my suggestion.... stop with the proprietary chat clients. Everyone team up and let's get a truly universal system going on. One of the biggest draws (and reason for the success) of BBM is that "it just works". It's there, there's no special downloading necessary. No wondering if the BlackBerry user has registered and signed up for the specific chat protocol. It just "does". The real BBM equivalent on Android is GTalk. It's just there and we all have it (whether or not you actually use it).
