better text messanger: samsung stock versus verizon ??

The last time I tried it, Message+ wasn't providing the Edge Lighting notification that I like and get with the Stock Messenger app.

Those using Message+, is this still the case, or can you now get the Edge Lighting notification when texts come in?

I get the edge lighting now with the message + I use it for the fact all my family is on it and I know when my kids read my messages :-)

Can your kids be on a non V. Message+ so you can still tell if they actually Read the message ?

I just tried Message+ again, and even though I have Edge Lighting Settings configured to be used "Always" (i.e. both when the screen is on and off), it only works when the screen is on with Message+. When it's off, I get the notifications, but no Edge Lighting.

Can you confirm that yours works when the screen is off as well, and if so, what settings are you using?

I can't stand the Samsung messenger app. In my opinion, it's garbage (just like the Samsung Contacts app) and works in ways that is not logical. Here's why I no longer use it... I have the pop-up and lock screen notifications shut off but the audible/led is on. And yet when I get a text message, the screen still lights up and reveals whatever app I'm in or website I was on before the screen timed out or I had shut it off. I contacted Samsung and apparently that's how it was designed and it was suggested I always password lock my phone...no thanks. It was designed to light up your screen even though pop-up notifications is off. There's no reason for that since there's nothing to show....pop-up is disabled! I switched to the Android Messenger for now but I have read good things about Textra.

I tried Messenger + early on but really didn't like the look or layout so I went with the stock one. Just went back to try it again and I can see it's pretty powerful and can be tweaked quite a bit but it doesn't seem to offer anything I really want or need so I went back to the stock app.

My biggest reason at this point for sticking with the stock app is that I like a very simplified front page with nothing but the bottom row of stock app icons. I like this because when I change icon packs that row all has the same 'style' of the icon pack. If you use an non-stock app it's icon is often it's own and will not change. Dumb, I know but I like an all or nothing approach.

The other thing I did with this phone was not download anything after-market to replace the stock app until I had fully given the stock one a chance. I'm trying not to gum up the phone with all kinds of apps. I have had a bad habit (and I'll bet I'm not alone here!) with adding a ton of apps that in reality I never use!

My last phone, the Note 3 which I had for 5 years, I ended up having somewhere upwards of 275 apps on it over time. Any realistic look at what was actually used revealed maybe 50 are used and of those maybe 15 used regularly.

anyone switch from the stock messanger to Verizon messanger after the switch to the Oreo ? I am not able to have each contact have their own text tone since the update to Oreo

I used messages+ when I had Verizon and really liked it. Anyone know what features you lose if using it when you are not with Verizon anymore?

I THINK you lose WiFi calling. I'm not sure though. I use it on my WiFi only Tab S2, and I have all the features. I'm a Verizon customer though, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I want to try Messages+, but i hate the look of it. Am I missing something, or can you customize that sterile white Conversation list, and can you customize the conversations as a whole instead of only being able to customize each contact's conversation? What a tedious pain in the ***. Tell me what I'm doing wrong here.

Messages+ is very customizable. Start with the hamburger menu on the top left corner of the screen while at the main screen (before selecting a message thread) and choose customize. You can change just about everything.
