Better to use 25w or 15w charger for overnight charging?

I bought the 25w USB-PD charger from Samsung. I was wondering though if it would be wiser to use the lesser 15w charger at night. I like to put my phone on the charger at bedtime and leave it plugged in overnight giving me a 100% charge to start off with in the morning. Would it be better for the battery (and safer) to use the 15w at night and save the 25w in case you need a truly quick charge during the day? What do you guys think?

Personally I swap phones every year so never even think about how it is charged. I put mine on a wireless pad and leave it on all night. If you aren't in a hurry maybe use 15w since will still be 100% either way in the morning and probably safer since less power.

I do the same. I have an old Samsung wireless slow charger. It charges very slow and that's fine because I leave it on all night. I will occasionally use the 25w quick charger if I need a boost during the day.

Alternatively, you can create a Bixby routine to disable fast charging overnight.

Personally i use a 15w qi wireless charger at night. Its a little cheaper too, so doesnt really make a difference if the phone charges at a faster rate over 25w vs a 15w charger at night when yur asleep long as it does charge.

I do have a fast charger but I have fast charging turned off like the picture above. I only use fast charging when needed.

So if I'm mostly going to charge with super fast charging but on an occasion plug-in in my car which is fast charging should I just turn the fast charging on when needed or just leave it on?

Why would it be "safer" to use a 15W charger versus 25W? Is the 25W going to cause a fire or something? If you actually believe that you probably shouldn't have a phone.

Why? Why wouldn't you just leave it on and let your smart device figure it out?

My phone came defaulted with super fast charging on and fast charging off but when I plugged in my car charger it told me it was turning on fast charging or that I needed to. So I just left it on cuz I use both the 25 watt and then I stick it in a fast wireless charger at night next to my bed. I'm on 28% right now and I'm going to charge it through the night. I don't know why but I thought I watched a YouTube video or somebody said something about leaving it off unless you were going to use it but maybe I'm wrong I don't remember now.

Whoa. That's a bit harsh lol

'Safer' for battery health.
Heat has the potential to shorten the lifespan of the battery. The faster the charging, the more heat is produced.
Just the laws of nature at work.
Maybe nature 'probably shouldn't have a phone' lol

I still use the faster charging because the potential trade-off is worth it in my book.

Be easy peasy!

I think they mean safer for the longevity of the battery. There is some concern that fast charging can cause the battery to degrade faster.

you beat me to it.

Personally I won't charge my phone to charge over night, I saw the negative impact leaving a phone on a charger regularly has on the battery when I worked at Verizon. It's sad but batteries can swell up to the extent a phone splits in two before it's a year old.

I've always charged my devices overnight.

There's nothing wrong with charging your phone overnight, with or without a fast charger/slow charger.

For the average cellphone owner, we typically switch phones every 2-3 years. So for battery degradation to "bad" because we overcharge our phones, we will most likely be on a new device.

So it won't really affect us. Unless you're planning on using the phone for the next 5+ years, then that's when users should try to follow lithium battery protocols: never charge battery to 100%. Only charge to 80%. Never let battery drop below 40%. Never overheat the battery or have it at freezing temps...

For the typical cellphone owner, that's a lot to follow. Just be happy with your phone. Use is as intended. When the battery begins to fall off, you're probably planning on getting a new phone. So why stress about keeping the battery at it's "best" condition?

Which charger you use makes no difference, as long as the charger supplies as much current as the phone asks for (and either the 15W or 25W charger does). You could even charge with a 65W charger. The phone will still take the current it wants - the charger, as long as it can supply that much, will supply it. (And a 15W charger can supply 3 Amps at 5 Volts - more than the phone will want.)
