I hope so.

The phone actually does have a Lithium-Ion Polymer battery. the exploding kind.

Sorry about the phone dude.

Not really I got lucky, my thigh where my phone was hurts pretty bad though.
Wow man, I hope your leg heals fast. I've crashed with my bike a few times, so I feel your pain.

Can't believe the Evo still works like that. It tells a lot of how good the build quality is. I had a phone that broke in half from a 3 feet drop.

Li batteries can spontaneously combust. Just ask Sony about the Li laptop batteries they made for Dell. And the FAA is considering regulating bulk shipments of items with Li batteries as hazardous cargo. I wouldn't keep that in a place where a fire could set other things alight either.

Sorry about your misfortune. Pretty amazing that thing still works at all.

Man that is brutal... I use to do a lot of cycling and have caught things with a handle bar or my leg.... Hurts like hell....

Amazed the phone semi works.... I always had a pouch thing that hooks under the rear of the seat and would wrap my phone in a small rag before putting it in there and some times even a good zip lock bag if it looks like rain (just to keep it from bouncing around too much and pad it from scratches) before I would hit the road.....

I actually have one of those bags that goes under your seat but I choosed not to put my phone in it as I was listening to music with it.

All this talk of the battery blowing up is scarying me... I'm glad I'm getting rid of it on monday when my replacement comes in the mail.

I believe there is a difference from LIthium Ion and a Lipo. While I think they both can catch fire I know Lipo's are more sensitive. Also lipo's require special charging and use to prevent them from melting or catching fire and are VERY expensive. I don't think they would put Lipo batts in phones as if you run them down too much they can catch fire. I know because I've done this with an RC car Lipo battery.

Just my Thoughts. I think they are actually different but I may be wrong.

You're correct. Lipo is just shorthand for Lithium-ion polymer. It's different than a standard Lithium-ion battery, a natural progression if you will. They both have very strict rules about their usage, the way they are charged and to the extent the way they can be discharged. They have to have circuitry built into the battery to control it (Take one apart, you'll see a circuit board) and it's that circuitry that prevents you from completely discharging the cell and destroying the battery. This phone does have a Lipo, just read the small text on the battery.

@OP, get rid of the battery ASAP. Don't need those cells shorting out and lighting something on fire.

I'm sorry to hear about your phone, but the real question, the only one that really matters, is... How's your bike??

At least the phone took most of the damage. A few years ago, my brother was riding down a hill on a path he frequently used. When he got to the bottom, he didn't see that there was a chain stretched across. He wound up having to have his shoulder surgically reassembled. Be thankful you only have a bruised leg and a phone which is being replaced under warranty.

Wow those are some nasty pics.. Glad you are fine.. NOW where are all those people who were worried about the kickstand not holding up.. LOL Looks fine to me...

Glad you're OK.

Now what really sucks is Assurion has like a 2 week wait for the EVO. Or at least they did yesterday when I called.

See I Told You So!!!!

I wrote in on that contest to win a case for my EVO and I wrote that I am an advid bike rider, and My Evo and I had a near miss one day and to my dismay, I was not a contest winner and now look, your EVO suffered a terrible accident. I am not saying I was wishing any of this on anyone, but I thought my story warranted a nomination for a white active case for my EVO so that I may be better protected incase of such incidents.
God Bless and good luck. Get well soon.
